These whistles are great to have on hand for emergencies when you are out camping or doing any other outdoor activities. They work well and are actually pretty loud as well. You just never know when you will need something like this. Perfect addition for a gift meant for the outdoor enthusiast in your life.

I don’t know how these whistles received good reviews, unless they were sponsored.First of all, they’re not very loud. They typically top out at about 95 decibels, as measured on a metering app.Second, in order to get it that loud, you have to carefully attenuate your breath to exactly the right level of airflow: not too much, not too little; otherwise the sound flattens out to more of a “wind whistling by” type of sound, which is not loud at all.. Also, you have to ensure the proper angle to blow into the whistle. So in short, if you’re not blowing at exactly the right level, in exactly the right direction, you’re not going to get anywhere near the maximum volume out of these whistles, which is exactly the kind of precision that you don’t want to have to achieve in an emergency, thus negating the whole purpose of a safety whistle.Third: they don’t glow in the dark, as advertised in the description. They’re orange and red, sure, but finding them in the dark is the same as finding anything else in the dark. Good luck if you don’t know exactly where they are.Save your money for something that will actually be effective.

I got a 4 pack of whistles that either hang from a lanyard or can be clipped to clothing. These are great for boating emergencies. They even float.
