Zombie Fruit Bars, Strawberry (12 Bars)

Tasted so good I was half-expecting to wake up craving brains instead of breakfast. Luckily, just fruit. 10/10 would survive the apocalypse with these.

I absolutely love these, too much in fact as it didn't take me very long to eat the whole box, even though they're classified as healthy, it probably isn't to each them as fast as I did, but I just couldn't help it because they're just so yummy. They're very fruity (obviously! the ingredients only showed 3 fruit and that was it! Apple, Strawberry (5%) Lemon) I got the Strawberry flavour which I found a bit strange to have only 5% Strawberry in it but I think that's all it needed because it tasted like Strawberry. Good for most people as well as they're - Nut Free - Soya Free - Gluten Free - No Added Sugar - Vegan - Halal - Kosher Then again, it seems to be just fruit so I'd expect it to be all of that. Lastly, the packaging is fantastic, super colourful and great art work. I think the kids would love this in a lunch box (and it's 1 of your 5 a day!) I think at £9.99 they're a good price to as there's 12 so that's under a pound per bar, although they're not very thick or filling. I can absolutely recommend these, although do take in mind, food is very subjective but I don't see anyone disliking this if they like fruit.

The strawberry flavour is not very strong. If you look at the ingredients, it's mainly apple juice with added lemon juice (presumably for the pectin to solidify it), with a bit of strawberry thrown in. It's nice enough, soft with just a little bit of chewiness, and sweet without being too sweet, and a lemony tang in the aftertaste, but you'd hope to have a bit more strawberry. It's fortunately not sticky so you can take it out of the packet and hold it in your fingers. The wrapper has a recyclable symbol (5 PP) but it's not clear if this means it can be put into large supermarket plastic recycling. 3½ stars rounded up.

These Zombie themed ‘Straw-buried’ fruit bars are incredibly tasty and a healthy snack which is a rare combination! I received 12x individually wrapped Strawberry fruit bars. I tried another Zombie fruit bar flavour, but I liked this Straw-buried flavour the most. These taste incredibly delicious and I would definitely order them again as a healthy snack. The strawberry flavour is very distinctive, fruity, pleasant, and sweet - with little sourness. I also found the texture to be enjoyable. I found these are less sticky than the Mango ones but remain a soft and chewy texture – overall, these are enjoyable and a delight to eat. These are fruit leathers, which are bars of mashed together, baked fruit. The only ingredients in these are: Apples, Strawberries and Lemons, which have been dried and smashed into the bar which makes it a delicious, guilt-free treat. Despite tasting sweet, there is no added sugar in these bars which makes this snack a healthier choice. As these are individually wrapped they are ideal for lunch boxes, work, or on-the-go snacking. Additionally, I also think these would be great for children and younger adults. This is because the zombie theme is so unique and eye-catching when compared to similar products in the snacking industry – it’s quirky, interesting and exciting. Therefore, it’s a subtle but fun way to slip more fruit into their diets.

The packaging is very vibrant and well designed, this is something that is sort of like marmite; you either hate it or you love it. It's hard to describe the consistency of it, it's like eating jelly, but if jelly was just a bit tougher, and tasted exactly like strawberry jam. Flavour-wise, it's like an explosion of sweet strawberry jam in your mouth. Very tasty, but I can only handle one bar every now and then as it gets a bit too sweet for my liking. My younger son (6) loves it which is great as he is a very VERY fussy eater, but my older son (13) absolutely detests it. I've been throwing one in my younger sons lunch box each day and he's completely ignored the jam sandwich and just finished this off instead. Will consider buying more if we get the thumbs up after this box of 12 has been completely finished, but may also try out the other flavours, such as Twisted Orange.

I haven't particularly enjoyed the flavour of these snacks, and they do not satisfy my hunger. They have a lemony taste with hardly any hint of strawberry, so they neither fulfil nor please. My boys seem to like them, but not excessively. They arrived well-packaged and claim to be suitable for baking, but I don't see how. I guess they can melt easily, but that's not something I would be interested in exploring.

These fruit bars from Zombie are similar in style to Fruit Winders (if you've had those before), only this is a much, much thicker bar of fruit. It's very sweet, tasty and feels more obvious that this was once strawberries, as there is still some texture to it, (albeit only just). The bars are easy to bite into, not tough at all, and my young kids love them. However I tend to only give them half a bar at a time as the sugar (although natural sugars), is on the high side. The bars are packaged very well and the Zombie theming is clever with little puns dotted around the packaging - "R.I.P. here to open" for example, and my eldest liked the "cool" characters on the box. Ultimately I view these as a healthier, occasional sweet treat bar, where they can get a good dose of fruit, rather than an everyday packed lunch item (due to the high sugars).
