Excellent!
Excellent product. Will focus down to 10 inches, so magnifies by 7 at 10 inches. Arrived very promptly. Plastic, yes but it feels sturdy. Small and light so easy to carry. Also good focusing at long range, so a versatile product that is very good value for money.

Usable in art galleries
I bought the Carson 7x18 CloseUp Close Focus Monocular for use in art galleries, to get a magnified view of details in paintings. The monocular gives a sharp enough image for this, and acceptable brightness, even in the subdued lighting of a museum gallery. At 7x magnification, and being hand-held, the monocular always has to be held very carefully to avoid noticeable "shake" of the image. It is very useful for limited periods of inspection of details, but I would not find sustained gazing comfortable. At a quarter of the price of a specialist 4x magnification "gallery scope" (which might make shaking of the image a little less) I find the Carson product an attractive balance of cost to usefulness.

Just as good as monoculars twice the size
Its advertising suggests it's only for close-up viewing, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it can also focus on and magnify distant objects out to the horizon. It's only about a couple of inches long and light as a feather..:)

Works well, but insubstantial.
I bought this as I needed something small for finding stiles/gates in hedgerows in big fields. It's no carriage in fact it's a bit too light. Does the job though.

Clear optic
Exceeded expectations for the price, very useful.

Small but powerful
Small enough to slip in a pocket, this monocular increases magnification by x6. It can be used very close up and has no maximum focus range. You have to twist it quite a lot to go from close focus to far focus which means it's easy to get just the right adjustments.

Image quality is quite good; not as good as a hand lens
Bought to view insects very close up at minimum focus distance. At this minimum focus the objective lens was 28cm and my eye was about 37mm from the subject. The field of view was 3cm. Depth of field was very shallow and needed to be used as one would a 8x or 10x hand lens and move ones head back and forth to get/keep in focus. Image quality is quite good; not as good as a hand lens, but for that you'd be only 2-3cm away which isn't always pratical in the field. Not a precision optical instrument and haven't yet subjected it to living in the bottom of my rucksac for months on end, but seems reasonably robust and is as good as I could have expected for a bargain £18.
