The Wonder Years Season 1 [NON-UK Format / Region 4 Import - Australia]

Being a US import, this is a R1 DVD set, so British customers will need to ensure they have a multi-region player.The Wonder Years is one of those few TV series which felt right from episode one of season one. The characters were fully formed, the suburban neighbourhood and JFK Jr High locations perfectly realised. Watching the debut series for the first time in many years has been a delight.It is worth noting that the original TV series was consciously filmed in lower definition than was the norm, so watching this DVD on a 21st century TV takes a little acclimatisation. The picture is grainy and rather anaemic. I believe this was the intention of the producers. It is little better than a good quality off-air VHS recording. Bonus features are interesting, though inessential.

The copy I recieved was shipped over to the U.K. from the North Island of New Zealand and unfortunately carried a region 4 code which is purely for use in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America, Central America, and The Caribbean islands, However the exporting company in question ( SmokeCds) were brilliant about the problem and issued a full refund upon request and insisted there was no need to return the dvd. Some days later it occurred to me that my aging old laptop contained a disc drive which could possibly allow playback of the disc, fortunately the laptop also allowed me to change the region code to 4 thus allowing me to view the disc, the picture is however now reduced to just 17 inches and the volume is very low, but at least it’s watchable. Therefore if your one of the above reviewing customers who has been left feeling somewhat disappointed, then I would suggest you try running it in the same way, provided you have a laptop fitted with a disc drive, it should allow you to view it, admittedly it’s not perfect, but it’s better than possessing a dvd sat in a box doing nothing. Give it a go, what do you have to lose.

DO NOT BUY IN THE UK! I was so looking forward to this, as it was my favourite series growing up. I had a backlog of DVDs to watch so when I finally tried to watch it: it won't play in the UK as it is Region 1 and now I am past return date. However, I am totally sure the advert did NOT say that when I bought it. Completely misleading advert! WASTED MONEY!!!

I received this last week , nowhere did it give a region but I can’t play it because it’s the “wrong Region” . Very disappointed

It would have been helpful if it had clearly stated that this was a US import and would not play on a standard European DVD or blu ray player- Cannot watch and therefore a complete waste of time and money unless you have a multi region player.

Do not buy for use in the UK as was very disappointed to find out that it doesn't work. Gave it one star as could not submit anything lower

Cannot play in the uk. This should of been clearly written! Complete waste of my time and money!
