Easy game
This game is engaging and easy enough for a 5 year old to get into. We enjoyed playing as a family with two toddlers. Great for early math by counting gems too

Ahoy, Mateys! Navigating the Seas with Pirate Quest
As a 43-year-old dad who's recently embarked on the turbulent waters of parenting (and who's no stranger to stepping on the odd Lego piece in the dark), I found "Pirate Quest" from Curious Universe Games to be a treasure chest of fun for the family, albeit with a small caveat - the dreaded small parts! First off, let's talk about the game itself. It's a swashbuckling adventure for 2 to 4 players, perfect for kids aged 5 and up, making it a fantastic addition to our family game night roster. The game promises (and delivers) an engaging experience, guiding young pirates through the high seas in search of treasure. The artwork and design of the board and cards are just what you'd expect from a game that wants to whisk you away to the world of pirates - colourful, lively, and inviting. However, as the captain of this ship (and by ship, I mean my household), I must raise the flag on one potential issue - the small parts. They're like hidden rocks near a harbour, ready to trip you up when you least expect it. While these pieces add a great deal of depth and enjoyment to the game, they also pose a challenge for those of us trying to keep our home navigable for midnight snack raids without turning on the light. Pros: Engaging and fun for a wide age range, making it a hit for family game nights. Beautiful artwork and design that truly brings the pirate theme to life. Encourages strategic thinking and imagination in younger players. Cons: The small parts could easily become lost treasures themselves, making the game difficult to play. Might require a bit more supervision for younger kids to ensure pieces aren't lost or swallowed. In the grand scheme of things, "Pirate Quest" is a fantastic voyage into the imagination for young and old buccaneers alike. Just be prepared to maybe draft a treasure map of your living room to keep track of all the pieces, or invest in a small container to keep them safe when not in use. It's a small price to pay for the hours of entertainment and family bonding that this game provides. Now, if only finding lost socks was as much fun as this game!

Fantastic kids game
I'll confess, the treasure chest full of sparkly looking gems first attracted me to this game lol. Having played the game with my kids (many, many times) I can honestly say that it's an easy to learn, thoroughly enjoyable game. I thought perhaps that it was more aimed at younger children and the appeal might be lost on anyone older, however my teenage daughter, my husband and myself all really enjoy playing it. The game is very simple, with players taking turns to draw a card. Most of the cards feature gems and players can choose to stick with the gems on the drawn card, taking that amount from the chest, or risk drawing more cards in a chance to earn more gems. Of course players might draw a chance card altering play, or even draw a monster card, losing all the gems they've gained that round. Gems are used to buy the 5 pirate themed item cards needed to complete a player's game card. The player who completes their game card first wins. Gameplay is simple and easy to understand. With each game lasting around 10-15 mins, it's easy to play multiple games back to back. My family will quite happily play this for an hour! My family highly rate this game - we have many board games but nothing quite like this. It's thoroughly enjoyable for all family members, young and old :) I highly recommend.

Fun game
I know it’s for 5+ but my 8 and 12 year olds enjoyed playing this as did I. It was easy to follow the instructions and doesn’t take much setting up. You get a treasure chest with 100 coloured plastic gems, clear instructions that are easy to follow, places cards, gem/instruction cards and items to buy. Each player has a place card to collect their items. The aim of the game is to collect enough gems to then buy the items you need to- hat, parrot, ship, cutlass and map. The designs of each item are different so you can choose which you like as you buy them. There is an element of stick or twist to it as you can decide to stick with your cards as you draw or keep going and risk losing your gems. It’s a mixture of chance and risk. We all enjoyed playing it and it lasted about 15minutes a round. Easy to pack away and store everything in the treasure chest.

Fun affordable game for all ages.
One of the key factors in games aimed at all age groups, particularly younger players, is a game that easy and fairly quick to play. This allows for players to play multiple games, with multiple winners and the players rarely lose interest. Pirate Quest is a great example of this. A card game with some physical elements in the form of a treasure chest. The game is beautifully packaged with colourful illustrations. The treasure chest is front and centre via a window in the box. The components are pretty good quality for a fairly affordable game. The cards are well printed with nice illustrations. The game itself is fairly simple to learn and quick to play. Players choose to draw or stick with their cards, and then collect gems to exchange for the item cards required for their character. There is an element of jeopardy in that the seamonster can take your treasure. It's fast and fun. A great little game that will make a good gift.
