Quality at a great price!!
This shock dissolves quickly and doesn’t contain stabilizer which can lead to chlorine “lock”. Container can be difficult to open but not as difficult as some other chlorine containers I’ve had in the past. The really cool thing about this chlorine is that the granules are in a plastic bag within the buckets so you have two opportunities to ensure that the product stays dry and airtight. If you’re new to pools and chlorine, this is important! I made the mistake one year of not ensuring that the container (another brand) was not tightly closed (mainly because it was hard for me to open) and left it in my shed over the winter like that. HUGE mistake. When I went into the shed in the spring, the chlorine smell was AWFUL and worse than that, everything in the shed made of metal was totally corroded. Lesson learned $$$Anyhow, to make reopening the bucket easier, I use the flat end of my corkscrew. Works like a charm. You could probably also use a paint can opener.Price was EXCELLENT, delivery quick and the product works. Enjoy your pool!

Good product. Twice cheaper than other brands
First of all, you cant beat the price. Works as intended . All the conplainers here dont know what they are doing. Its hard to open lid? transfer it to different container. Hard to disolve? You not just dumping clorine in pool. Disolve it in bucket first and after pour it around edges in pool, especially if you have pool liner. At the same time make sure your pump is running and let pool robot work as well. It will help to distribute the undersolved granules.

Do NOT Buy!! It will ruin your pool
This stuff is awful. I have had pools for years ad have never had an issue like this. I bought the 12 pack of 1 lb bags. I added 1 -1lb bag to the pool. The granules are very large. It will not dissolve. Maybe there is some trace chlorine it, but I think it is contaminated with something else. The water is opaque milky white. I have been rinsing the filter twice a day and running the pump 24/7 for 4 days and the pool has barely improved. Now I can see the second from the top step on the ladder barely. We'll loose at least 2 weeks of pool use if not more and spend tons of time, money, and effort trying to correct this mess. I wish I had since the poor review on May 31 the same day I bought this. I don't know if their is a problem with just this batch or all of it. I do not understand how it has so many good reviews. The return for refund process is useless as the label provided is just an address form and not prepaid. It is barely worth paying the shipping for 11lbs back to them for the little bit of money I'll get back.

The best shock
I use this to keep a drainage ditch fresh that has sewage in it. This is some of the best and best priced that I have found on the market. I highly suggest it and will continue to buy it.

Good price but you get what you paid for!
I would like to echo the comments from most customers with the hacks to workaround the shortcomings.1. Horrible lid and a badly designed tab that required heavy duty screw driver and piler to remove. It is worse than the driveway sealer bucket. Good hand exercise though!2. The plastic bag inside the bucket to hold the chlorine shock corroded and broke into 2 pieces. There goes the moisture seal!3. The lid is from the 19th century press seal type. It seals tight but very hard to open on a weekly use basis. Have a heavy duty screw driver handy to do some hand and finger exercise. I'm thinking about transferring all the shock powder to an empty bucket with a screw type lock lid for 21th century use.4. There is no scoop inside the bucket. Again, save the old one or use an old measuring cup.5. No mention of available chlorine on the label, the listing said 60%. So, use more since it is cheaper.6. Probably no stabilizer in the shock, need to buy it separately! There goes the saving!7. The sturdy wire handle may not be a bad thing, at least it won't break like the plastic one. Put a slit opened short PVC pipe on it or wear glove.8. The shock dissolved quickly in a 3-gallon bucket of water than other famous brands I used before. It leaves almost no residue which is a good thing and won't hurt the liner as much.Overall not a deal breaker but there are things for improvement going forward. Keep the price low, that's all it counts!

Good product, effective, kills algae.
Shock my pool once a week w/ 1lb of product. I use this product in combination with copper sulfate to have a nice, clear water with low maintenance.

Leaves water cloudy
I turned to this product when the brand I regularly used became ridiculously overpriced (I note that as of today it is "37%" off and virtually the same price as this product). Unfortunately, using this Cl shock will cloud your water for a substantial time. In my case, treating with one bag left my 20k gal pool cloudy for approximately12-24 hours while continuously running the filter. Ca-hypochlorite is soluble in water. It's not causing the cloudiness. It's not clear what is happening but it's one of two things. Either the "other ingredients" are insoluble (in which case the material is eventually removed by the filter) or they are much less soluble than the Ca-hypochlorite but do eventually go into solution with the pool water. If it's the first scenario, then the filter will need to be cleaned more often than normal. If it's the second, then it's just irritating and I suggest adding it at night with the filter running continuously.

Good Cal Hypo
As others have said, the manufacturer is definitely saving on the packaging here. The bucket lid must be cut off in order to be opened. Not hard to do with a box cutter. Thing is, the lid also doesnt seal now so I have to stack something heavy on top to keep the thing sealed. But Id say it’s worth it. This was far and away the cheapest I could get any kind of pool shock on a per ounce basis. And the stuff works just as well as anything else Ive tried. Be careful where you store accelerants/flammables as cal hypo is an oxidizer, meaning it lowers ignition temps of other chemicals, among other things. All told with how crazy chlorine costs have been, Im very happy with the product.
