WEN 55201 Magnetic Oil Dipstick for Inverter Generators (compatible with WEN, Yamaha, Predator)

This is a great upgrade to the plastic oil plug that comes with the generator. If you want to break in your generator properly (you tube it, lots of great videos), you should also use a magnetic dipstick/plug to help capture little metal fragments that can damage your engine and float about in your oil, especially during the break in process. This helps to grab those metal shavings and you can pull them out and get them out of your engine. This is a cheap but incredibly easy and useful tool to help the longevity of your generator.

Great overall machine work and surface finish. Magnet is strong and captured by aluminum housing, not a threaded magnetic screw as in others, thus very small chance of separation and falling into sump due to not relying on threads to keep tight and in place. Incorporates an O-ring to seal against engine casing. Threads have a few nicks from rough treatment before packaging, nothing major but degrades appearance, not performance. Oiled threads prior to installation to prevent any chance of galling.

Works as described. This item is an absolute must for these generators as they do not have any type of oil filter. So, metals are free to float around and start to cause undue wear and tear. Honestly, these should come on them from the factory. Very cheap upgrade that will save you money in the future!

Purchased for my Predator 5K generator. Solid and well manufactured with a thick O-ring. The magnetic tip allows you to monitor for metal particles. It's not strong enough to capture, only give you an indication of what's going on. I also added a magnetic drain plug to be on the safe side.

I bought this for the Predator 3500. It is significantly shorter than the original; the bottom end is about halfway between the "Full" and "Empty" markings on the original. I was also disappointed that it didn't have a "Full" mark on it, but then I realized 1) that this model is used for many different generators, and that mark would be different for each generator, and 2) the photo on Amazon does not show a "Full" line, so if I wanted one I should have ordered another model! So I put it in my lathe and cut a small line at the full position. Then, because I was afraid that I would at some point forget whether the line was "Full" or something else, I engraved "Line = Full" on the top. I know that the bottom of the dipstick is the "Half Full" mark, and that's enough information for keeping the oil topped off. Overall, the part seems well-made to me. The magnet is located in a pocket in the bottom of the dipstick, which should make it more secure. Some aftermarket dipsticks that I have seen just stick it to the bottom. And the price was really reasonable.
