You can try to search car forums to see if any one has done this before to find the direction the ATF flows in your car. Or you can disconnect one of the hoses underneath and start your car for a few seconds to see which end of the hose the ATF spews out from. Its not a problem to let a little ATF come out while you do this since there is a reservoir anyway. Just make sure you don't have your car running too long.

this filter fits a 3/8 transmission line . I know absolutely 0 about your ford other than it is a big diesel . Search online for installing transmission filter on your specific year f-250 .

It will have to be plumbed into the transmission fluid cooler circuit. They can be installed on most all vehicle's equipped with an automatic transmission installed mine on a 2005 ford explorer, after a rebuild to help filter out any impurities.
