18" Yankee Screwdriver Made in Germany

It’s a quality item the only downside when it came to final drives with tough fixings I had to resort to my Stanley Ratchet screw Driver

Was not at home for delivery by Royal Mail, my item in Rutlands account told me not trackable, anyway, got it today at local post office. Parcel was soft wrapped and so I feared the worst (damage) and on opening package, discovered it in a paper thin cardboard box all crushed!! But found it okay inside at first glance. Then went to study the screwdriver, first looking for the manufacture stamps (made in Germany) Found not a single stamp marking what so ever any where on the screwdriver ??? It feels good and has some weight to it, but at this stage I am worried still (63 pounds with vat and delivery is a lot of money) There is no plastic sleeve cover on it at all. There is not even a basic operation leaflet or parts/diagram list !! The 3 drill bits supplied are stamped from the maker. Then undid the bit retainer screw to find out how the workings are on it, as I had researched a lot on Yankee screwdrivers and this end bit is a modern adaptation to take 1/4 inch hex shank bits ( the older Stanley yankee drivers had special made bits for it, hard to find/source today, outdated, but you can get a modern adapter too now, but anyway, grabbed a bit to try it out to see if it locks okay. Well I could not get it to lock in, so I am already dissapointed, as I am in the house with it and not trying it out in workshop yet. I came back to it a little later again, and studied it again, now realising that there must be a clamp type retainer ring in there to bite it closed as you tighten it up and it is not there and annoyed that it may have been left out. I decided to look around on the ground nearby, I found a small rubber o ring that belongs there, this is screw down squash bite ring. Well, If you slacken the ring a turn as you supposed to to remove bit, what happens is the o ring come through still on the bit or stays behind but is laying sideways up, ready to be lost, or not able to insert another bit or screw down locking ring. No way are you going to keep this o ring more than a day !!! If you super glue it in, it will eat/perish the rubber. This is the bad part of it. How many people are going to unscrew that part, straight away and not even realise it has a o ring ( lost now) and return the item or such. The wood handle is lacquered so heavy is makes you think what type of wood is under there. Other than that, it seems okay, will have to see, but before using, I am going to phone distributor to ask questions about this feeble tiny rubber o ring, what size it is, where to buy to carry loads of spares etc Surely by now, since they started selling it, you would think they had many complaint calls on it !! then, also distributor should be mentioning all this about the o ring on the selling site and most of all a remedy.

I love this Screwdriver it makes big jobs so easy, This one replaced an older version. I am rely happy with its durability. Thank you.
