Rather disappointing, particularly given the price
On the plus side, this wooden railway set comes nicely presented and uses environmentally friendly cardboard and paper, rather than plastic, to protect all of the pieces. In addition to the track, train and two carriages, there are lots of individual figures and pieces of scenery, all neatly and attractively painted. The figures include most of the main characters from Peter Rabbit. There is also a vegetable plot with radishes that can be pulled out of the ground, loaded onto the train carriages and then replanted. Strangely, whilst there is a scarecrow, Mr McGregor himself is missing, although that will give Peter and his friends more opportunity to play in the garden! As well as playing with the train itself, fans of Peter Rabbit doubtless will get a great deal of entertainment from all of the different figures and scenery; making up and acting out their own stories. It should be noted that the radishes in the set are quite small and at the same time look really attractive, so could easily be mistaken for a sweet by a youngster. Although the train set is clearly marked ‘3+’ I still think the radishes could present a choke hazard for some three-year-olds and should very definitely be kept well out of the reach of any younger siblings. The amount of track provided is relatively small, just enabling you to make up a layout 86.5cm x 52cm if you copy that shown on the box. The vast majority of pieces are short curved sections. Unfortunately, when put together, these create bends that are really tight and this can result in the train derailing, particularly when the train and both carriages are hitched together. The good news is that the track is a very similar design and gauge to other wooden train sets that are available, so extra pieces can easily be added at a relatively low cost if desired. The Peter Rabbit set can also be linked into any wooden track that the child(ren) may already own.Be aware that some of the wooden figures and pieces of scenery will not stand upright on carpeted floors and fabric playmats due to the relatively small size of their base. Another likely disappointment and/or frustration for children is that the bridge included in the set is actually too low to permit the train to pass underneath! This, despite the fact that the bridge is shown standing over the track in one photo on the box that the set comes in.Whilst recognising that part of the cost of this set would relate to licensing fees that need to be paid to use the Peter Rabbit name and characters, at just under eighty pounds it still seems extremely expensive for what you get, particularly when compared to other wooden trainsets that are available.Thank you for reading my review. I hope that you found it useful.

Detailed, lots of accessories but some strange choices
This is a really good little train set but not perfect, there is a charm to it and some really nice detail, it's a great collectable for Peter Rabbit fans and fun for kids. On opening it all is wrapped in paper, a nice touch and makes it feel special. As well as the wooden tracks there are wooden Peter Rabbit figures, the train, trees, block houses, wheel barrow, scarecrow, a bridge, owl and tree, gate and bushes as well as a radish patch. All the pieces are smooth and fairly thick wooden pieces, however on a carpet some of the scenery doesn't have a base and although decently thick wood are still fairly flat in nature and so fall over easily. A little plastic base or a bit of stability wood at the bottom would have helped here,The train itself is really nicely painted, in fact the whole set has good detailing on it's characters and scenery. The train seems to connect together nicely but on a carpet I found it often derailed against the tracks as they tend to move about, especially in the sections where it zig zags a bit. A radish fits in the front and characters can fit in the back, though they wobble about quite a lot.One oddity I noticed was the bridge is not tall enough for the train to go under, very very strange as even the box shows it over the track in one of the photos, I mean it goes over the track.......but the train can't go under. A very strange decision or maybe a mistake in sizing. It's a beautiful and detailed wooden train set, you get a lot of pieces and it's very charming, it really does evoke the feelings of Peter Rabbit and it has the essence of everything. It just has a few strange quirks, the bridge isn't tall enough for the train, the characters and scenery can fall over on carpet and the tracks arn't greatly table on a carpet which can lead to easy derailments.

A MARVELOUS AND IMAGINATIVE GIFT
This is a truly lovely set that all young children are sure to love. Beatrix Potter stories have enchanted children for generations. Many of the current generation will be familiar with the cartoon and the movies as well as the books. This set is another way to bring these stories to life. It's a good size set featuring Peter Rabbit, his family, friends and some of his much loved neighbours from the world of Beatrix Potter including Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Jemima Puddle-Duck. The tracks for the train are good quality and fit together nicely so the train can be pushed around easily. The train has 2 carriages that characters can be sat in to go for a ride. The set also features some lovely scenery to create areas such as Mr McGregor's garden and woodlands. As for use so far the set has stood up to some pretty rough play! Bits have been banged together, thrown and chewed and the non toxic paint on the pieces hasn't come off at all which is a real sign of the quality. The pieces are chunky and easy for little hands to hold. It's already so loved by both the young and older members of the family and its encouraging some lovely play between generations all familiar with these characters and stories. Yes the price seems a little high for a wooden train set but it's more than just that. It's a world of imagination to make memories with and worth every penny!
