Turning Fierce Dogs Friendly: Using Constructional Aggression Treatment to Rehabilitate Aggressive and Reactive Dogs (CompanionHouse Books)

Redundant and poorly written
The entire book is a recounting of personal stories about the authors experiences and she repeats herself an unnecessary amount of times. She also very avidly advocates for euthanasia of aggressive dogs which is insanely counterproductive for a book about helping with aggression issues. The only useful part of this book comes about 160 pages in and is very specific to a certain type of aggression that is not applicable to many other scenarios. Not a single thing about this book was helpful for us and I can’t imagine it would be for many others, even if they have the patience to make it to the end of the book.

This is the best book for dog owners on aggression that I've ever ...
This is the best book for dog owners on aggression that I've ever read. It is also an excellent resource for professionals to use while addressing aggression cases.I have used this method (thanks to Kellie's teachings) and have had near magical results with severe aggression. There is no doubting the efficacy of this method. The book itself is easy to read, yet full of helpful and heartfelt advice. Kellie Sinder has a way of presenting sound science without attaching emotion to it while also being extremely empathetic to the human on the end of the leash. It is obvious she cares immensely about the wellbeing of not only dogs but people as well. All I can really say is buy this book! If you are a dog owner in desperate need of help or just dealing with mild reactivity: you need this book. If you are a professional and want to learn a better way to deal with aggression cases or a handbook for working your clients through aggression with their dog, you need this book!

Beautifully presented!
Finally got my copy! The book is a valuable reference for dog trainers and owners and offers some solid techniques for managing and modifying the behavior of dogs with aggressive behavior. The layout is simple and elegant and attractive with appropriate and well-placed illustrations. Although artwork is generally secondary to the content in a book like this, here they actually work together beautifully to better deliver the message. The information is presented in a precise and concise style, which doesn’t force the reader to slog through miles of technical jargon to find what they need. I’m looking forward to making this book available to my clients and using it as an adjunct to behavior modification programs I manage!

The title says it all
I appreciate that this is a book about dealing with aggressive dogs, which most authors won't really touch. The method itself is not described until very late in the book and it's not unlike some videos that I've seen on youtube. If I was starting at zero, there is good information about humane training. However, this is not a complete guide to training your dog. Since the content so specialized, I think that about 100 pages could be cut from the first 10 chapters, but I appreciate why they were included.I'll report back with results.

Understanding dog aggression
This book gives owners a fuller, research -based understanding, discusses safety, management, treatment, rehabilitation techniques, and even how to know it's time to call in a pro. It guides the owner through honing their observation skills, which is essential.

Best Book for Reactive Doggie
The Constructive Aggression Treatment (CAT) program described in elegant detail in this book is exactly what I was looking for! This approach is spot on for addressing reactive issues before they lead to aggression as well as aggression issues. Calm, self-confident dogs are happy dogs!

Incredibly effective
I bought this book when it came out, but I didn't truly need it until I got a fear aggressive dog. He doesn't threaten to bite -- he goes right at you and will bite several times before you can move! I was scared to death about his prognosis. But I applied this method, and he responded from the very first attempt. He's still a work in progress, but PROGRESS is the key here. Thanks so much for this resource!

Appropriate for owners, also for experienced trainers
Well laid out. Very clearly written. I’ve been waiting for Kellie Snider to write a book about C.A.T. for years. I expected it would be too nerdy for the average pet owner dealing with dog reactivity, but it isn’t at all. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any owner struggling with reactivity or aggression, and to any dog trainer or behavior consultant.

Very wordy and little info throughout most of the book.
This really should have come out as a 20pg pdf. The amount of useful information comprises maybe 10% of the book. The other 90% seems to be the author just trying to add as many words as possible to actually make this a book. It was frustrating to read.

Very interesting and informative
Very easy to read and clear chapters about a difficult subject. I was very happy to read it to the end and feel I have gained insight - which I can't say for all (on both fronts ) ..

Well written
Disappointed that it is one of those non-force/positive only books but I am doing my best to get through it and glean some useful information.
