Great for Spoken Word
I picked up the RE27 after trying out the Shure SM7B and the RE20. The SM7B was the most gain hungry of the bunch and had the flattest frequency response, which is great for audio engineers as a "blank canvas" to work with. I used the mic for live meetings and video voice overs so I wanted something that sounded better without the need to equalize [for the meetings]. I saw a comparison between the SM7B and the RE20 and thought the latter blew the former out of the water for spoken word; it adds more presence and sounded more authoritative (you'll see this adjective a lot when researching on the RE20). I bought it and enjoyed the sound for a bit but then saw a video comparing it to the RE27... Before I continue with my opinion, I should add that everybody's voice is different and these mics might sound better/worse for you. For me, the RE27 outperforms the other two mentioned here. It's not nearly as muddy as the SM7B and RE20, and requires slightly less gain (SM7B required the most, RE20 was a little better, RE27 requires the least). The lack of coloration/proximity effect is nice. It also has three manual switches that will affect the sound--a high-pass filter (-3DB for higher frequencies that can help with sibilance), a mid-range filter (100-1000Hz) which I keep off because it makes your voice sound flat, and a bass rolloff. I'll add to this review once I have more time for it but I thought I'd write this up for anybody comparing the three mics mentioned here.

My Favorite Mic
I've used a variety of mics for different applications over the years, this is my favorite for spoken word. I use this mic for audiobooks, podcasts, and overdubbing videos. It was a tough choice between RE27, the RE20 (my long time favorite), and Shure SM7B, but I feel the RE27 gives the most crisp, clean, and modern sound. If you're trying to mimic the sound of terrestrial radio stations, the RE20 is the way to go. The SM7B is loved by many and I'm not going to knock it, but I feel if you're trying to get the most clear and accurate sound, the RE27 is my choice. Every voice is different but I feel this mic is a little bright in its neutral position, so I use the built in filter and roll off the top. The mic is very well built–solid construction, quality materials, strong, and attractive. It's one of the most expensive dynamic mics out there, but I've been very happy with mine. If taken care of, it will last a lifetime.

Electrovoice Often The Choice of Broadcasters for Good Reason!
This RE 27 is like 3 microphones in one, In normal setting it sparkles with clarity and a nice even bass at the low end.If you use the bass roll-off switch it sounds like it's cousin, the warm RE 20. Very quiet, great polar pattern, and doesn't pick up every little noise in the room. I have an average voice and it sounds spectacular on this mic. I also tried it with a standard foam filter (mesh is even better), and the sound did not lose any luster and it cancelled most of my plosives. Remember, this microphone already has some pop filter material built into it. ... Plus, if you speak directly into it there is barely a hint of proximity effect, so your voice won't sound deeper, but will sound very accurate. Also very good for drum/kick drum amplification. Electro-Voice microphones have sustained their legacy as one of the most sought after broadcast microphones in the industry. This baby is a solid winner! Still the best sounding and most satisfying microphone I own.. Add a Fethead for dynamic microphones and it becomes turbocharged and even cleaner!

Excellent broadcaster mic
What can I say? It's an RE27/ND, 'nough said. It's a bit hot, but with the high cut (low pass) filter, it sounds great for my voice. It's incredibly clear and solid, has excellent noise rejection, and no issue with proximity. I use a windscreen because of my plosives and sibilants, but with good voice work, you wouldn't even need one. It's a sportscaster standard for a reason. I can't recommend it enough.

Everything you could possibly want in a dynamic mic!
This is everything the RE-20 is and more. Add about 6db overall gain. More tighter and controlled bottom end with a bit more sparkle on top. Without any eq. Definitely the go to without any eq or preamp needed. Can just go raw out and have no shame!

Wow! An amazing dynamic mic
I ordered this mic from Amazon/BSW about a month ago. I had some doubts about getting a dynamic mic, but after talking with and listening to Mark Jensen's podcast at [...], I went ahead and purchased it. My fears were unfounded and this has become my favorite mic. It has a rich sound, can be used off-axis, and greatly reduces room noise. The mic is incredibly well built, solid with a large diaphragm. It seems to have more gain than many dynamic mics and on the Presonus MaxRack system we have including a Tube Pre, Compressor and Equalizer, it sounds rich, full and extremely professional. A dynamic mic may not be for everyone, but if you do voice-over, this is an excellent choice. My next dynamic will be a Heil Sound PR40, which also looks like a great mic... Can't have enough mics. :)

THE BEST MIC FOR MY HOME STUDIO!
I just purchased the RE27N/D and LOVE IT! The sound is fantastic for my home studio. I have been using a Neumann TLM49. A great mic but too sensitive for my home studio. (I'll be selling it soon on Amazon). The RE27 is well built and sounds great. It has a built in pop filter that really works. It's nice to record audio books without having to look around a large pop filter. I had planned to purchase the RE20 but when I discovered that this mic brings out the highs and has a little more power I spent the few extra dollars and bought this one. A great decision. I've used the Heil PR40, Neumann TLM 102, 103 and 49, and the RODE NT1A. Save yourself some time and buy the RE27N/D. I don't think you'll regret it.
