Not top grain, but a decent product nonetheless.
This is what's known as bicast leather. It's not top grain, but split hide that's been reconstituted with a layer of polyurethane on the surface. That said, it's a good product. It is strong, cuts and tools well, is flexible and smooth, and is very consistent in thickness and appearance. I bought some for a project thinking it was top grain and had to use something else because of the properties of this material. I've since used it in other projects where I don't have those limitations and it performed very well.

100% genuine FULL grain leathet
There seems to be some confusion with the reviews regarding the authenticity of this leather. This is 100% Full Grain Leather, without any question.First, just look online. Bonded and faux leather is very clearly not leather. There are no non-authentic leather products (well maybe other animal hides but those would be more expensive) that look like one solid layer. The second complaints mainly stem from the look from the side cut. This is full grain, so you have both the top grain AND the suede layer, so it looks like there are 2 layers. This is normal and how full grain leather looks. Perhaps there was an issue where the listing use to say top grain, but judging from the reviews that wasnt the issue. Also, it wouldnt make sense based on the thickness, top grain is obviously much thinner.Finaly, some reviews question the suede underside look, because it has a pattern which kinda resembles threading. If you look at my last picture, its just matted down. Its possible the pattern is natural or it derives from the curing process, where the leather is getting rolled through machines. Either way, if you pick at it youll realize its just matted suede.People are complaining about workability, which is a fair argument. My purpose required thick protection, so i opted for full grain. However, if your making accessories and what not top grain is probably an easier and better looking leather to use. Also it will just feel better. Full grain leather isnt nearly as pliable. Its good quality leather. Im giving 4 stars instead of 5 because i bought reddish brown and the leather doesnt have any red hue to it at all.

Beautiful
Made in China and it feels rubbery. Used some for a knife sheath. My leather cutting tools are having a hard time punching through and it does not take a leather stamp at all. Even with a 9oz ball peen hammerConsidering covering my craft table with this material. My new sheath is incredibly durable as it doesn't scratch like leather. I did resort to using a drill and some new sharp bits for making holes for stitching. My leather punches did not want to go through and the holes close up unless you have a hole puncher.I can't shape it like leather either. A sharp hobby knife will cut very cleanly. Does not sand very well with 60, 80, 120, 220, 300 or 600 grit paper.Material glues well. Kinda wish my work boots were made out of this stuff.Seems extremely water repellent. I think it's a great choice for generic holsters or sheathes.Works very well as a hobby mat.
