Emphesis on good works resulting from Mercy and Grace
I read this book as part of a collection on Grace. The author mixes Mercy and Grace but brings out the fact that Jesus always treated the common people - sinners - as special. I think the emphesis of this book is on Good Works regardless of the political or social background. We receive Grace from the Lord at salvation (Vertical) and He expects us to show Grace and Mercy to all those around us (Horizontal), He contrasts Grace and ungrace clearly. The stories in this book are real. The acts of Grace and Mercy are real. This is chock full of great sermon illustrations. I gave it 4 stars because it was pointed out that Mr. Yancey is somehow affiliated with the Emerging or Emergent Church which is an evolutuon of the Social Gospel to which I do not subscribe (Experience over doctrine). Some stories are a bit dated to the Nixon, Clinton presidntial eras.

Grace is one thing we Christians can offer the world, and in so doing fulfill the great commission!
The world is so filled with judgment and un grace and the overwhelming feelings of unworthiness that we think this is the way it must be, that this is normal! From the worlds perspective this is normal. From Gods perspective it is not! He extends grace to an undeserving world, and we in turn can extend that same grace to those around us who don’t deserve it anymore than we did. This book will challenge you at your core, and if you let it, it will help you to approach everything you’ve learned from Gods Word from the understanding that He loves us enough to extend that grace to us, yes even to you and me. If we want to make disciples of all nations, we might begin by extending grace. Leave the judgement to Him! Thank you for such a thought provoking book!

very good
If the whole world could act on grace, we would be living in a wonderful place indeed. I particularly liked the chapter on forgiveness, something I work on daily.
