the foot spike is wide
I like the fact that the metal foot spike part is wide. I am planning to use these without the snow shoes because the spike it self is excellent.

Fantastic solution to a problem you may not have know you have!
I purchased two sets (one for me and one for a photographer friend). We used them on our heavier carbon fibre tripods in the sand dunes of Death Valley National Park. Both of us were extremely pleased with them; they kept our tripods from sinking into the sand and contributed to many successful photographs. I am certain they would work equally as well in the snow. No more unstable, sinking tripod legs -- easy to install and extremely well made. I highly recommend these for your full-size tripod. (Caution, they will not work with small "travel" tripods because of the size of the "screw-in" portion. But, on something like the Really Right Stuff TVC-34, they are PERFECT!

These will not slip
If you have found yourself working on snow or ice with your rig and it just will not stay put but keeps slipping on the ice or snow, these are the answer. Universal threading means they fit purty much any rig. They thread on easy and fast, and they do their job well, THEY STAY PUT.

Perfect for deep snow shooting - Quality Product!
I am sold on this concept after using a similar product from a different brand. Since I will often setup two cameras, especially for dueling timelapses, I figured another set of these "tripod ski basket" foot accessories would be useful while shooting in the deep snow of the Colorado Rockies backcountry. I saw the Desmond version of this type of snow basket and since I've had excellent experiences with several of their other products, I thought I'd give them a try and compare them to the Leofoto brand snow baskets I already own. See my pictures for some side by side views.Although the concept is very similar for both products, the Desmond version has a much beefier spike to pair with the baskets. They do have different methods of tightening them to the tripod leg, with the Desmond using an included wrench and the Leofoto uses a hex key or similar inserted into the hole to twist them tight. Frankly, hand tightened seems to work fine with either brand. Comparing the baskets, they seem to be very similar other than the cutout areas are a slightly different pattern, but essentially the same. I can't really say if one is better than the other as both are top quality at come in at about the same price. Both use a standard 3/8" thread. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand.Overall, the Desmond DSNOW tripod accessory is well made and they fill a specific need in a photographic accessory. I find the general quality of all the Desmond products I own to be top notch and generally a good value compared to other more expensive brands and am very satisfied with the Desmond brand.

Very Well Made and Fit for a Tricky Job
I have various sets of tripod feet alternatives, but I had never come across a set of feet that were designed specifically to use in snow, so I was interested to see this set from Desmond. Now, I do not get snow regularly where I live but when I do it is not uncommon to get 12 inches or more. As a result, I ordered this Desmond set. Each foot consists of a substantial spike and a plastic spreader. The feet are very nicely machined and exude quality of finish. The spike itself excluding the shaft is just under one inch across (25mm) and 1.5 inches (35mm) in depth. The spreader is a little under 3.5 inches (85mm) in diameter. When combined each foot weighs 3.75 ounces or 104 grams. You are going to be adding quite a bit of weight to your tripod with all of these in place, as together they will add up to about 11.25 ounces or 312 grams. It sounds a lot but if you want stability on deep and crusty snow it's a small price to pay.I have now added these feet to my collection and look forward to using them. If you are not afraid to go out in the snow and cold to take photographs, then this set of feet is a "must have."

Great snow spikes.
Good set of tripod snow spikes. The snow shoes are plastic, which is why I took off a star. I really would have preferred to see metal snow shoes, but the plastic ones are better than I expected, not flimsy or cheap feeling. The spikes are hefty, and a great size. Snow shoes go between the spikes and your tripod, so they're easy to put on and off when needed.Versatile set, great quality.

Built for snow, but have a second calling.
I set these up on my tripod and wow, can you say big? These are much larger than I had anticipated and surely should work well for stabilization in the snow. I have to wait about a week and I can evaluate them in a pending snow storm that's on it's way.The thing that occured to me while unboxing these was the spikes and "snow shoes" could have a second useful purpose. I shoot time-lapse photography a bit and these could be good for stabilizing you tripod for a long shoot. There is nothing more aggravating than having the wind move or jiggle your camera due to not robust enough rubber feet that come standard on most tripods and monopods. If we get this foot of snow I will report back with actual data. Long and the short of it is these are built well and I see no reason that they wouldn't work excellently. Time will tell about snow if we get the forecasted precipitation.

These snow spikes and snow shoes are exactly what I expected and hefty and solid!
These are my second Desmond product, and again, they have shown themselves to be a trustworthy brand. The spikes on these feet are much heavier and stockier than the spikes I have for ground work. They will certainly penetrate the snow and these baskets seem sturdy enough plastic to keep them stable in the snow. They fit perfectly on my 3/8" receiver on my tripod legs, are easy to install and lock down firmly with the enclosed wrench. They will add some weight to your snow-ready photography gear, but better safe than sorry as most hikers and landscape photographers know. In short, I would not buy those expensive name brand ones, save some money and buy these snow spikes and shoes, they will last and serve you well.
