A beautiful piece which is sure to be the pride of any collection!
My Tanzanite pendant arrived about two hours ago, and when I opened the protective red velvet pouch and took it out, I was quite astonished by the size of the gem. Yes, the sales page does give the measurements, but until you see the item for real, it doesn't really hit you just how generous it is!Is it real Tanzanite? Amazon's detailed specifications say so, and you can normally take them as gospel, but as it's summer here in the UK and won't be dark for more than seven hours yet, I haven't had an opportunity to test its pleochroic characteristics, the simplest "diagnostic" test of genuine Tanzanite. With that other well-known pleochroic gem, Alexandrite, the phenomenon can be faked with a Created, Vanadium-included Sapphire (see my review on 1 Carat Created Alexandrite Marquise Pendant .925 Sterling Silver Rhodium Finish ), but I believe, since Tanzanite is a calcium aluminium hydroxyl silicate, it would be harder to fake this gemstone and its colour-changing display.Tanzanite is a relatively recent discovery, as gemstones go: first found in 1967 in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (from where it derives its name), deposits can be found in the Merelani hills there. It was originally known as Blue Zoisite (which mineral is usually green), but when Tiffany & Co. introduced it to the market, it didn't sell very well, which is probably because, when spoken in certain accents, "Blue Zoisite" can sound like "Blue Suicide"! So they renamed it Tanzanite, and then sales apparently took off. A deposit is apparently also extant in Kenya (found later, otherwise it'd probably be known as Kenyaite, or maybe Kenyanite), but most commercially available Tanzanite is "created" owing to its sheer rarity in nature. As with the above mentioned alexandrite, different kinds of light can cause it to display different colours: during the morning, it's bluish; later in the day it can show purple or lilac tones, and under a bulb or candle it can show brownish-burgundy. Right now, mine is displaying the most gorgeous lilac shade, very akin to a lilac Buddleja (Butterfly Bush). Only time will tell what happens this evening. Whatever comes to pass, I think this is a very lovely piece of jewellery.UPDATE 29/8/18: The stone turns the palest lavender upon exposure to artificial light, and when rotated shows flashes of burgundy. This means it is, almost certainly, "created" Tanzanite. Which in its turns means it's laboratory-grown, but chemically and structurally identical to natural Tanzanite (which is so rare at gem grade, you'll pay an arm and a leg for it!).UPDATE 7/11/18: If you purchase this item, please don't make my mistake: if at all possible, change the chain for one with a spring ring clasp. On Thursday August 30th, my husband declared that he wanted us to do the grocery shopping after he finished work for the day. Unfortunately, one of his biggest flaws is a combination of stubbornness and short-sightedness, which leads him to ignore - and sometimes ride roughshod over - my physical shortcomings as a Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferer. That particular day I was feeling highly lethargic, almost hung over, but he wouldn't budge, so I put on my Tanzanite just before leaving our home, to help dispel the lethargy before it became fatigue. Sadly, the lobster clasp on the chain did not secure correctly and, though I still have the chain, I've spent the last two months searching for the pendant to no avail. I've missed it so much, and it's been so useful, I've ordered another... but this time, I'm not going to use the supplied chain. Please, if you can't or won't change the chain, at least pull down on it a little when you put it on, and make very certain the clasp is securely closed! I don't want other buyers to experience the misery of a lost gemstone. From a jeweller's perspective, I have to state right away that there is no hallmark on this stone's setting or chain, so people with base metal allergies must take care. However, it is still a remarkable buy for the price! The teardrop facet is crisp and well-executed, and the setting isn't so heavy as to block the passage of light through the gem. The setting is backless, too, meaning that light also has free passage between the gem and the wearer's skin, if they choose to wear the pendant next to their skin. It also sports a protective V-shaped 'claw' at the tip of the teardrop: this is always a sign that the maker knew their business because Tanzanite, at a 6-6.5 on Mohs' scale, is one of the softer facets you'll find, and it would be altogether too easy for the tip to break off if it were unprotected.Metaphysically, Tanzanite, again like Alexandrite, is a relative newcomer to the scene (unlike gems such as Sapphire, Emerald, Peridot etc., which have all been known and revered for centuries, if not millennia), and neither stone's healing properties are yet fully known. Tanzanite is however known to be beneficial for those in relationships/marriages, as it aligns the mind with the heart and aids us in focusing on that which will help our love blossom. It also helps its owner to get to know themselves on a deeper level and promotes a strong sense of self-control. It supports you in looking beyond limitations and boundaries, so you can answer the call of your heart. If you're looking to break the mould, get away from convention and be yourself, Tanzanite can help you to harness your inner strength and do it. It also removes lethargy and helps bring repressed feelings to the surface, and is a highly creative stone which can help you to get back on track after your creative 'flow' is disrupted. And beyond even that, it can help you to develop your psychic abilities, such as clairvoyance, intuition etc. Bodily, it helps strengthen the immune system (or, so I'm told, regulate it if it goes awry), improves vitality and helps with cellular regeneration. I wonder if whoever paired this with the Pink Sapphire pendant sold by the same seller for a discounted "buy both for £...." deal (and which I also purchased in the same order), knew exactly how much Tanzanite and Sapphire have in common! Finally, on the assumption that this is genuine Tanzanite (and I'm increasingly coming to feel that it is), I must offer a warning for times when the piece requires cleaning: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW IT TO BE CLEANED USING ULTRASOUND!!! Tanzanite has minimal ultrasound resistance, and the stone can become warped, discoloured, clouded or possibly even cracked! Steam cleaning could cause serious damage, too. Also, do not expose this gem to very high temperatures, or rapid and major temperature changes: distortion, damage and/or a permanent colour change could be the result. With the appropriate cautions addressed, I give this product a MOST RECOMMENDED rating.

Simply lovely!
This is a lovely piece of jewellery at a bargain price. The finish is as that of a far more expensive item, as is all Rizilia jewellery. Unfortunately it wasn't quite my colour but I have passed it on to my daughter who can carry it off better and who is delighted with it!

Matching jewellery, buy it here.
I love wearing sets of similar coloured jewellery and found it hard to buy yellow items. This fits the bill beautifully.

Cute, well made, great colour necklace
Dainty dark green pendant. Matches my green/black evening gown perfectly. Already had slightly larger pear-shaped drop earrings which matches this necklace but would have preferred the green starkly gem pendant to have been a tad bigger.
