Very inexpensive for what it is, excellent sound quality.
First thing is it was set to Chinese language so I had to hunt around at random to find the English. That only took 5 mins so no worries there. The sound quality from mp3's is amazing. I played it through my car stereo and it's the best sound I've ever had out of it. I set the internal equaliser for 'pop' and it gave a standard pop response so I am over the moon with the sound. Much better than expected.I chose this as I wanted one that accepted 256gb cards. The menu is a breeze to follow; a little thought and you can understand everything easily. I set mine up first using a USB lead straight into the car stereo and the stereo allows you to control tracks playing etc, then I set it up with a USB power lead and an audio lead into the aux socket of the car stereo and this also worked fine, and allowed me to control everything via the unit itself. It starts when I start the engine, picking up from where it left off, then when the ignition is turned off it shuts itself down after about a minute or so.If you are playing 6 albums sequentially of your fave artist, it plays track 1 of each album, then track 2, track 3 etc. Instead of playing each album one after the other. There is a full menu for controlling how things play so I think I haven't got it set up right yet.For people who want a really simple setup this is a great solution. Saying that this is way better in quality and ease of use than my iPod classic and other MP3 players so although it is a simple setup, the sound quality is excellent and what you'd expect from a much more expensive player.more than happy to give this a 5 star rating, it's worth it all day.The only thing I found bad so far is when I went to pull it off the two little blobs of Blu Tak on the dashboard, the rear cover which holds the battery came off easily, and I almost snapped the wire to the battery. Clearly there's a quality build issue here, but it does not affect the working of it.

Good cheap player
Got this to listen to at work rather than streaming and using up bandwidth. Got a 200GB card to go into it and that holds a large part of my collection (Plans to get another card at some point). Battery lasts most of the day which is what I wanted - Would be 5 stars, but I find the menu a bit difficult to locate individual songs when the filenames are large (You need to wait for a long string of txt to scroll across screen before name of track appears!). I'm hoping for a firmware update in the future to address this, otherwise an excellent little device!

Good player but needs some extras
Bought this to replace an ipod nano that I use at the gym a lot. Sound quality seems really good, was easy to use and set up. However my main gripes with this are:- with bluetooth headphones if you don't start playing pretty quickly the unit shuts down and you have to re-start the player and the headphones to sync in again- does not have a clip so for gym use is not very practicable- the lack of clip would not be an issue if there was somewhere you could buy a case to put it in or some sort of skin. (I've had to use an old pouch type thing that goes round my waist. It works but not very convenient.)Summary - if you want a music player then I would recommend it. If you want to use it in the gym or exercise etc a lot I would go for something else at the moment.

Very pleasantly suprised.
Let me start by saying, i love my music, and i have decent hifi at home. Won't bore you with the details, but it rocks.Portable music is a whole different ball game. I've had ipods and mp3 players for years. ipods are great little devices, especially given itunes is still probably the best cd ripping software available. BUT they have 2 limitations ... poor volume output and storage capacity. Ok ipod clssic 160gb, but there long gone. I've always considered ALAC files to be the best option over FLAC. And WAV, well no better but twice the file size. So at an average of 500mb for a cd, it does'nt take long to fill a 16gb pod.Enter this little beauty ! One of the few hi def players around that supports ALAC files. 256gb card in this, i've got the best part of my whole music collection, at lossless compression, on one unit. Sorted !Of course this would all be pointless if it did'nt sound good. But it actually sounds fantatsic. Blows the pants of an ipod.I use a pair of 'Soundmagic E10's' (there's another review) mostly for travel. Amazing !!! But this little guy also drives full size headphones no problem. Something no ipod could do. I love the sound. Vey warm.So what about the negs .....Well, don't suppose it will ever win any awards for style. No touch screen or GUI, if that's your thing. Interface is a little dated compared to modern devices. But if you want a basic player that plays ALAC and hi res files, and sounds superb, look no further.Yes sure it can be bettered. Astell & Kern blah blah. If you've got £2000 to part with. I have'nt.At £50 this is a no brainer !No dedicated cases/protection available, altho it's fairly rugged anyway.

Great with Rockbox - but no use with a damaged power button
Bought this 6 months ago, I would have given this 5 stars if it had just a bit more battery life.As others have said the standard firmware is quite acceptable but I would not have bought this without the ability to install Rockbox. I'm pleased with the sound quality which obviously depends on the earphones used.UPDATEJust over a year after buying this I pressed the power button to turn it on and the button stayed in. A few years ago the back would have been secured with 4 screws and I'd have had them out in a jiffy and fixed the problem in a couple of minutes, the review would have stayed at 4 stars As it is I'm left with a useless brick!
