Got the smoke + indoor air quality monitor (IAQM) model to replace an old basic smoke detector. Install and setup in the Kidde app were fairly easy and straightforward. Wifi connected pretty quickly. Like most smart devices this only connects to 2.4GHz (I use separate SSIDs for my 2.4 and 5 GHz bands so no issues there). The alarm sound is incredibly loud. The Kidde app lets me monitor smoke, humidity, temperature, and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) levels. The humidity and temperature readings are a nice bonus. The device takes 4 days(!) to calibrate before it shows TVOC readings. TVOCs basically refer to fumes from things like paint or cleaning products, pesticides, aerosols, off-gassing from building materials or furnishings, and the like. They do NOT include carbon monoxide (CO), nor does this model monitor CO levels. If you need CO monitoring, Kidde offers a 3-in-1 model that monitors smoke + CO + IAQM for about $50 more.The Alexa integration is disappointing and useless. The extent of it is an Alexa Skill for Kidde that allows you to ask Alexa the smoke status of the alarm and get a yes/no answer (I’d hope to be alerted to smoke or other hazards as soon as they’re detected, not just when I think to ask Alexa). You can’t actually add the smoke detector as a device in your Alexa device list, let alone access its data or control its test/hush functions through Alexa. Unlike my smart thermostats and locks, this alarm isn’t actually integrated with Alexa. So if you’re wanting to get this because of its touted Alexa compatibility, you’ll be disappointed. Otherwise, this is a pretty good smart smoke alarm with a quality app (so far) that provides the main smart functions I’d expect.

I have some older hard wire units that needed to be replaced and these work well to do that. I had to swap out the connectors but everything went together without any hitch. Its nice to have an app to keep an eye on things and these do the trick. Its nice the batteries have a 10 year life so no more beeping in the middle of the night. Overall, easy to install and use and the price is good for a pair of these. Definitely can recommend!

Easy to set up, the Q-code on the back is all you need to set up your device on the Kidde app. This will only connect to a 2.4gig wireless network. Would be good to have the option for a 5.0gig wireless, but I'm sure it doesn't need all that data. My 2.4gig network is getting a bit crowded with the smaller bandwidth devices. I Works with Alexa and you can get notifications when your smoke alarm is going off wherever you are in the world. Have a neighbor check and see what's going on if you're away. This is peace of mind that goes with you.
