King of Sloth (Kings of Sin, 4)

I have three words men that try. Xavier is such a lover and I really enjoyed reading this book. Xavier and Sloan are so different from each other, but they’re so similar as well and I feel like that’s what makes them go so well together is that they can connect on those levels, but they also have their differences as well. When I first started reading the book. I was like OK I don’t think I’m gonna like this like There’s no way, but is it progressed and we kind of started seeing those different sides of them I was like they’re literally a match made in heaven the fact that he was the one that could break her walls and melt that ice around her heart which is icing on the cake for me and this book just shows that we need to bring back men that try men that show that you love that they love you men where you don’t have to be guessing like do they like me? Do they like me men that make it obvious that they’re in love with you and only you the moments when they’re realizing that they’re in love with each other Was probably the best part of this book Sloan. You have my heart forever. You were clocking that tea and your family can really go suck a D.

I did enjoy the banter between Sloan and Xavier! I absolutely laughed out loud a few times with Sloane’s abilities or Xavier’s antics to see what his Luna would do.However, the lack of tension within the plot made their love story a hard sell for me to get fully invested in. This is not to say I didn’t enjoy reading their love story to see them persevere through their family traumas to be pushed into who they were meant to be. Alone had a huge hand in pushing Xavier of course but he FINALY did something for himself. The club was the first thing he could truly say he worked hard for.Overall, it was just not my favorite in the series. The audiobook version didn’t capture the essence of the characters so I stopped listening to the audiobook about 25% into the book. I found it more enjoyable to simply read the book myself which felt like a let down from paying for the audiobook version. This book did have me looking forward to the next book in the series though with more information about who/what Vuk does.

This one was clearly not quite ready to come out of the oven - beyond the many formatting issues, there were some pretty big continuity errors. Our couple went without protection for every scene except the big, heartfelt one at the end, and there was zero explanation why they went backwards - pretty sure that was just an editing error. Beyond that, I think this could’ve been a much stronger book with a few tweaks here and there (and a shorter page count). I liked it to an extent, but the relationship was often overshadowed by the extreme amount of business talk and family drama. I wanted more swoony moments and scenes that softened the edges of these characters, because they just weren’t easy to relate to without that. Our heroine is known as an ice queen and the hero is known for being hedonistic and lazy, so they needed that swoon factor. I will say that I liked the hero a lot more than I expected to at the beginning; he truly was gone for his girl, and I loved that he didn’t want to change her. I saw a lot of potential in their opposites attract dynamic, so I’m left feeling disappointed by the end result.The story follows Sloane, a woman who runs a PR firm. She’s known for being cold and aloof, which is part of what makes her business so successful. There is one client who drives her a little crazy, and that’s party boy Xavier. He doesn’t seem to have any ambition in life other than having a good time, but the death of his father changes that. With some complicated stipulations in Xavier’s father’s will, it’s the push he needs to finally get moving. Seeing a different side of Xavier draws Sloane in closer, and it’s not long before the chemistry builds between them. But neither one has ever considered having a lasting love before, and they might just be out of their element.I’m what you’d call a casual Ana Huang reader - I like her writing, but I wait to see what the tropes are before deciding to dive in. In this case, I was very intrigued by the blurb, and had such a good feeling about the story. I did not realize that Xavier and Sloane had been working together for years, which was pretty disappointing, honestly. I did understand Huang’s explanation that they had the kind of attraction that was easy to put on the backburner, but that certainly didn’t help the swoon factor, lol. They were good for each other though, and I would’ve loved more of the story to focus on the two of them rather than all of the side characters and distractions. It’s the kind of story that was JUST good enough to hold my interest, and could’ve really won me over if something great happened. Unfortunately, that simply wasn’t the case, and I found myself bored enough to notice all of the editing flaws.Audio note: Zero complaints about the audiobook, I loved the duet narration. Gregory Salinas and Elena Wolfe are both newer-to-me narrators, and they gave great performances. The duet style made it feel more immersive too. The runtime (13 hours) reflects the long length of the book, and it took me a few days to get through. Once I lost interest in the story, I switched to the kindle edition to speed things up, and that’s where all of the weird editing issues became obvious (paragraphs running together, weird line breaks, no distinguishing marks between perspective shifts, etc). They’re much easier to ignore in the audio format, so that’s another plus for the audiobook. There’s a decent amount of spice, so not sure I’d recommend this as a workday listen, but it’s easygoing and light overall.

This is my second-best in this series (Kings of Sin). Xavier is the best leading character so far, I loved him! Sloan is an interesting character as well. She wasn't annoying; she knew who she was, and what she wanted in life. Ana Huang's style of writing is better since the first in this series. I recommend this one.

I really enjoy reading Ana's books, and this one is no exception. I had a bit of a difficult time getting into it, I think because I had a bit of a hard time getting through the last one. However, I really enjoyed this one. It's tied for 2nd place with the second book in the story, Kai and Isa's book. This one was about two wounded people who helped each other heal. As always the chemistry is off the charts, but I really felt their connection and compatibility. There were some formating errors, such as conversations being combined rather than separated depending on who was speaking. Bring on the next book. I'm ready for Vuk's story.
