Gilbert Kiwi II Rugby Short

I know I am getting fat, but I still fit in most size 34 pants (snug but acceptable); because of what I read from others about this product, I ordered a size 36 to hedge; it really isn't big enough for me. Part of the problem is the elastic goes all the way around the waist top band, and it is very strong, with not very much give. If the elastic gave a little more, they would fit fine. I tried stretching the elastic for a couple of days (wet the pants at top, expanded them for a while), but it didn't do any good. I can wear them (and I do) even though they are slightly uncomfortable. Usually I would just say, nice try and throw them in my never wear pants, but these are a nice heavy duty cotton, and they fit the thigh areas well, and most important, they are the perfect length. They have very nice (reasonably large) pockets in the front, and they just seem like a well made product. I do recommend them highly if you can get them to fit well. Just remember, they are all cotton, and if you wash them and throw them in the dryer, THEY WILL NEVER FIT YOU AGAIN. (And, no, I haven't washed these yet, and when I do, it will be in cold water and hang to dry).

The Gilbert Kiwi II Rugby Short was just what I was looking for. It is not to short and not to long. The shorts are great for around the house, but if you have to go out to the store or on an errand they look great. They are heavier than a lot of shorts out there, but I like them and after a few washes they are becoming softer. I know that some reviewers have warned about them shrinking, I did not have that problem. My wife washes them in warm water and a tumble dry on the dedicate cycle and so far no problem. They are cotton, so take care or I am sure they will shrink. Now to my complaints. They only come in three colors, black, dark blue and white. I would have bought many more of these and still might, because I really like them, but when I bought this pair the price was $15.27. When I went back to buy at least three more pair the price was $35.08 each and I am not sure I want to spend that much for a pair of knock around shorts.

I ordered these shorts with no expectations and when I put them on I was immediately impressed. I will outline the pros and cons below instead of writing a big paragraph:PROS:- Very comfortable, even before washing- VERY deep pockets that easily fit wallet, keys, cellphone, with room for other things- Comes to about mid-thigh length or a bit below (depends of course on how long your legs are)- *** Very unique stiff reinforced opening on the pocket so that the pocket opening stays closed when running around and such- Allows you to move around and squat rock-bottom very easily- Stretchy waistband with drawstring allows a secure fit with room to grow- Look very stylish!CONS:- A bit stiff when you first wear them out of the package (they will likely get softer though after wearing and a wash)- Since these are 100% cotton, they have no give due to their durability, so if you have large thighs they may be tight when squatting or moving around (may want to order a size up from what you normally are)- Apparently you can't put them in the dryer

This is my second pair (first was black in 4XL) and this pair was a bit looser and it barely stayed up. I normally wear XL and the 4XL in these are comparable, albeit a bit looser. Now that these have been washed, they will stay up (without having to cinch up the drawstring so tight). I expect after the second washing that they will fit just about right, since they are all cotton (in white, if I had to order again, I'd probably would order 3XL-Kindda depends on subsequent washings that I cannot speak to as of right now). I like the extra room these have and that they don't hang around my knees. These are great for lounging around and loose enough for unrestricted movement for athletic activity. I also like that they have deep pockets.

They are the rugby short.The construction is more than adequate, they feel strong, the stitching is solid and they are built to stand any rucks, scrums and line-out lifts.Pros: The construction is top notchOverall everything you'd expectCons: Must be line dried, cannot be put in the dryer. I own two pair that I wear for games and use regular shorts I don't mind ripping for practice.The waistband was a bit tight and I felt the fit was a bit small, but not much. When I say small I mean the waist, these are rugby shorts and of course the leg is short, it's supposed to be. If considering between two sizes you go back and forth between the upper size may be a more suitable option.

I bought black and blue. Took me back to the good days of hs gym shorts. They are heavy duty cotton and fit well. If you want the 'in style' longer inseam you may not be happy with these. I don't want the fashion look and went for a shorter inseam, 4" - 5", and I find it more comfortable. Side pockets are not all that roomy (rugby players probably don't keep stuff in their shorts during a match) but my mp3 player won't fall out easily. My only complaint is the seam down the center front which is a bit abrasive on parts but maybe with wear they'll soften up. I'm reduced to using a supporter in the meantime for cushioning. I've been looking for shorts like this for years and I've found them.

Excellent "heavy duty" shorts that I expect will last forever. I've never seen nylon reinforcement in the pocket opening such as used here. Length and waist were perfect fits as described. They feel a bit tight right in the crotch. Maybe I'm not standard there but a bit tight for comfortable movement to run and kick a ball. Still ok for lounging....if they don't shrink at all on washing. If they do shrink at all, I'd go up one more size next time. ie==I will order again. Company email service was immediately responsive. A nice experience.

XXX-Large does not mean much. Reading other reviews I got the feeling that these shorts ran small. Not!! They are bigger than I need but not so big I will spend time and money to send back. Putting an actual waist size in inches would make a lot more sense.I like the shorts, just bigger than I need.

Chose these rugby shorts for the gym and to run in as I don't like modern shorts. They are very comfortable and they don't chaff, they are exactly what I wanted and at a great price too.

Shorts are of a fairly heavy material,so would function well in winter weather ,and would not likely tear easily.Actual leg length is about right ,and allows good movement . When wearing them,they fit quite tightly around the rear, a light cotton underbrief would be suitable to wear ,or indeed a jock strap,although the latter does not seem so popular these days. In all the shorts are well made.

Super shorts! Perfect fit, accurate sizing, very flattering. Wash and wear over and over; at 40 degrees there's no colour-fade, no shrinking, and no reduction in the cotton's strength or thickness. I am just about to buy another couple of pairs.

Well made "old school" Rugby shorts.Made to last absolute ages.Pockets are full length, in that the bottom of the pockets are stitched into and are part of the hem of the shorts.The integral waist tie is a heavy duty lace with the usual aglets. Personally I don't like these on clothes but accept them as part of making a quality product. I'll just do what I normally do and trim them off after adding a stopper knot.Already added to wish list for the smaller sizes when more weight comes off.

A good fit, a little longer in the leg than my son would have liked but good quality material. Has a small seam running down the front of the shorts. My son wears them around the house all the time as they are comfortable.
