CYP 7.1 Audio from HDMI De-Embed

Perfect for Wii U
After buying the Wii U and being disappointed that there was no optical output to carry the 5.1 surround sound and also having an old amp that doesn’t accept HDMI, I started to look for an alternative to having to buy a new amp, thanks Nintendo. I found this (Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater by CYP) and can confirm this works, as long as the game has Dolby Digital, not all Wii U games do but, for example, Epic Mickey the Power of Two does. So for anyone out there that is in the same boat, this should also work for you. From my investigation on this, Nintendo decided not to pay Dolby licensing fees, so this means that the Wii U can only output uncompressed audio format LPCM via HDMI, hence no optical output. Using the optical output from the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater to your amp will not work, as optical doesn’t have the bandwidth to carry LPCM 5.1 and will only carry 2 channel LPCM. So to connect the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater to an amp that doesn’t accept HDMI, you need to use the Multi channel outputs on the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater and connect these to the relevant 6CH EXT inputs of your amp (my amp being the Denon acv-a10se).So the connects will be as follows:1) Set the switch at the front of the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater to LPCM 5.1/7.1CH.2) Take the HDMI output from the Wii U to the HDMI input on the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater.3) Take the HDMI output from the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater to the HDMI input of your TV.4) Using three minijack to 2 x phono cables, from the Multi channel outputs of the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater, connect FL/FR to FL/FR on your amp, connect LFE/FC to SW/C on your amp and connect RL/RR to SL/SR on your amp. Then you will need to switch to the 6CH EXT on your amp.I’ve seen numerous discussions on the internet about how to get 5.1 out of the Wii U, even the suggestion of using the optical output from your TV will not work. There may be other pieces of kit similar to the Audience HDMI Audio De-embedder Repeater by CYP, but be careful as some I found only have optical output, which I said before won’t carry LPCM 5.1.

7.1 Surround gaming with laptop
If you have a laptop with hdmi out you have with this device a suround 7.1 option for active speakers or simple logitech speakers. Very good quality and cheap solution.Unfortunately it has no dolby surround decoder for dolby surround formats for film in it.So you can watch dolby surround with laptop but not with p.e. mede8er.

A new world
HDMI is a new realm to me. The idea is to extract 5.1 audio from it and feed it into 3 stereo technics power amplifiers. However the audiolevel output is to low to feed it directly into the amplifiers. These levels are not given in the manual.I asked CYP but sofar no answer. The device works fine via the preamp on the two front speakers.
