An excellent whetstone
An excellent whetstone that is a joy to use for refining the sharpened bevel, once an apex has been achieved. For a more polished appearance, it's necessary to progress to a fine stone, such as their 5000-grit whetstone.

AS GOOD AS THE YOUTUBE REVIEWS SAY
Remarkably efficent stone and with the bonus of being 'splash and go', so no messy soaking episodes. No instructions but I don't mind a few colour illustrations to accompany the Japanese text. lapped the stone with a flat 300 diamond plate and used it straight away with very good results. Not cheap, but again you get what you pay for; too many bad memories of rubbishy sharpening stones that dish out and promise fake grit readings. Definitely recommend these stones for any halkf-serious woodworker/leathercrafter. I'm probbaly going to sucker myself into going for the 5000 grit next even though all my blades are adequately sharp and polished. Addictive and rewarding.

Good finishing stone
The 2000 grit stone is great for finishing the sharpening process. I use it after using a 320/1200 grit diamond ‘stone’ to further refine the edge before stropping.

These are really good stones
These are just really good stones, really good. Finally big ceramic stones are available for a sensible price. Ceramic is simply put: better tech. I have a very expensive machine to sharpen things for me, belts etc. it’s exceptional. I find myself going for these stones more, they are quicker !! Yes you need to develop some skill with stones but it’s so worth it. They define this as middle grit, but this stone this grit plus a strop…mirror edge!! Fantastic. Would you need a higher grit, not really for the everyday…awesome can’t recommend high enough

Ceramic excellence
I have four Shaptons from the 360 to the 5000 with the 1000 and 2000 in between. Finish off with a leather strop and knifes are razor sharp. These stones are ceramic and splash and go although I usually let them sit in cold water for three or four minutes.

Well worth having
My partner were really impressed with this stone. Found a very blunt knife which he uses regularly. It took no sharpening and the knife were sharper than when he first bpught it.

Bueno
Took a while to arrive but hey, it’s from Japan. Nice stone. Works well once you get the technique down.

2000 is MEDIUM grit according to product's own manual
Only 1 star as this 2000 was listed as a "very fine" stone on Amazon, but the Shapton pamphlet it came with even states their 2000 is a medium grit. For a very fine grit for woodworking tools you need a shapton 5000. I've just got a DMT XXCourse diamond plate and a 1000 shapton for the main sharpening, and then a strop with compound for deburring and adding a tiny tertiary bevel. I'll probably get the 5000 as well at some point but I don't know of it's really needed as the 1000 and the strop seem to be sharpening my chisels and plane irons just fine.
