The advertised size of memory is the unformatted capacity. When you format the memory the file system takes up the difference in space that you see, manufacturers sell memory based on 1GB=1000MB, 1MB=1000kb 1KB=1000bytes and so on. Memory devices are formatted as below.... 1GB=1024MB, 1MB=1024kb, 1KB=1024bytes etc, this works out to be approximately a loss of 74MB per GB of advertised capacity.
