This thing indeed does work.
The item works pretty much as I expected and I received what I ordered. What I learned after I received it, was this was a fine grit diamond tapered rod and that course grit and medium grit Diamond Serrated Sharpeners were also available from DMT. Though I did accomplish great results on my serrated knives, the task may have been quicker with a courser grit. Long story short I Got R Done!

top quality, perfect for serrated blades!
We had picked this up to sharpen some serrated knives that just weren't cutting it anymore (ha!). We were pleased to find that the taper on this sharpener allowed us to dress multiple sized serrations, and it brought the blades to a razor sharp level. There had been chips in the serrations, and those have been refiled and sharpened to the point that you would never know they were an issue. This thing really does its job well. An excellent product that I would purchase again!

Super Fine Grit.
The grit on this sharpener is extremely fine. It is almost non-existent. If you're planing on really sharpening or reforming edges, this is not the proper grit. I would recommend the fine 600 grit, or even the coarse 325 grit for general sharpening. This 1200 grit is more for polishing edges after sharpening with a more aggressive grit. Personally, I find this sharpener useless for sharpening serrated edges, but it will put a fine polished edge on an already sharpened blade. It makes a nice addition to a full set of DMT sharpeners, but if you're only going to buy one for all purpose use, I recommend you get the fine 600 grit diafold. The quality of the product is excellent, and the design is great.

precision file that leaves to marks on piece.
I like using this to polish and remove burrs from small mechanical parts. You can also use for sharpening serrated knives. I did snap off the handle but the DMT company stepped up and made it right. You just cannot lean on it too hard while using. Much much better than a stone and you can use it as a very precision file so it's versatile. Highly recommended.

Diamonds rubbed off after 2 knives.
Sharpened one long bread knife and all diamond cutting materials are gone. I bought all 3 grits and they rub off and the rod becomes a smooth rod without cutting material.

It's DMT, so it's Great
I have multiple DMT products, and all are uniformly great, from 120 grit 8" stones to 8000 grit 8" stones. This conical sharpener works well for serated knives, as well as other tasks that might need a round sharpening or "filing". The handles fold around it in storage, and fold in the other direction to expose the stone. The handle is easy to hold when using. For sharpening knives, I prefer a slight stream of water, to keep the stone clean. I also keep some DMT flat "files" for touching up kitchen knives. I have never had less than perfection from DMT.

Highly recommend
I have been using exclusively DMT products for as long as I've been sharpening anything soon after discovering them. This product doesn't disappoint, well constructed. Although in honesty I had to return one which broke within 15 minutes which the return process was really nice and easy. The second one I got forgives that because I know DMT makes an above superior product and it is reminiscent of that quality. Obviously speaking to that the sharpening and ease of sharpening is remarkable. I highly recommend this product to anyone with a serrated blade.

Revised
I goofed on this initial review. Up-rated to three stars. Explaination - This is a 1,200 grit item. I thought it was the 600 grit item. Even after I realized it was the 1,200 their 1,200 is finer than any I have encountered. The 600 and 1,200 used to be on the same page. My Fail. The handle IS fragile so be really careful. YOU MUST follow the break in advice DMT gives as even this very fine will gouge. I would find a piece of scrap steel for breakin, or a literal throwaway knife. I am a lifelong knife collector, and the owner of 30+ various sharpening stones, tools and systems, including other diamond grit items. I read the other one star reviews and it seemed that the most common complaint was the fragile handle. I decided to take a chance as I am a careful person. It is fragile and looks to me like any fumbled opening of this tool would easily break it. However I am one of the unlucky people who got one that shed its abrasive coating in ONE use. One small knife and high percent of the rod is basically smooth. EDIT: See my revised statement at the top. A 1,200 grit should feel smooth. Theirs is exceptionally fine or it is just that diamond grits feel different than stones. DUH! Please note above. I know what sharpeners of 1000 plus grit feel like and what kind of mark they should make on a test piece. (EDIT: Never owned a Diamond grit this fine. Should have considered that.) This rod now leaves no mark, only an ugly scratch if you happen to rotate it to a contact longitude where a spec of the lumpy original grit has somehow not fallen off. (EDIT: It does still polish, super fine marks. And the break in was still not complete. Again my fail.) Feel free to gamble and try to join the 5 star club, but I doubt I will ever buy from DMT again. EDIT: I am actually going to buy the other two and have full set of 3. It still seems to be the most reasonable price to deal with RC 65+ serrated. And be aware of the Return Window! (Still True.) Test new purchases at once. If you buy ahead like I did this Prime Day open things up to be sure they are what you expected. Better to gift a correct and working item and include a note for a friend than have busted and potentially non-returnable stuff.

Excellent sharpener! Used for sharpening small blades on my penknife and leaves a sharp edge.

I didn't know these existed up until buying this one. I though my knife would need to be replaced. This file works well but you do need to practice as it's not as simple as it looks. Time and watching some YouTube videos then you'll get to grips with it. I'm not too keen on the folding handle design but it does help with storage.
