Decent, cheaply-made shower curtain rod; instructions are not accurate
PROs:+ Lightweight, good for apartment showers+ Easy to install+ Does what it needs toCONs:- Cheap materials unsuitable for a home with upgraded fixtures- Instructions are incorrectAnother review (by Robert Laughlin on July 17, 2023) reported that the instructions were incorrect for the curtain rod.To confirm what he reported, the instructions I received were not accurate with the product I received. This is not a "compress and tension" rod like it says, which is a bit misleading. This is a standard curtain rod that you rotate to extend into place. There was some give, but nowhere near enough compression to follow the instructions of extending 2" beyond the wall and then compressing into place. The rod I received extends by rotation, so you simply rotate the rods and it will telescope out slowly. Once in place, the rod seems to hold securely thanks to the rubber feet. It was easy enough to install once I figured the instructions were incorrect. The material is very lightweight, but the nickel finish is nice and suits the rest of my bathroom fixtures. The shower curtain glides easily along the bar which is a big improvement over the rod it replaced, which would annoyingly catch the curtain rings as they slid. For an apartment shower, this should be just fine. But if you have nicer furnishings or a house with superior build quality, you will want to look elsewhere. This is a very middle-of-the-line curtain rod.

It will hang your shower curtian
A week in and its holding so much better than the big box store one. The Big Box one hand no spring, so I could never get it set exactly right to have tension needed to hold up a wet curtain, but not too wide I couldn't fit it.With this model you get it pretty close and spring makes up those last factions of an inch difference while supplying the force needed to keep the rod up.The spring inside its stiff (which is very good) and its very easy to set it a few fingers width wider than the space and press it into place. Takes a little muscle to compress the spring while setting it, but it worked fine for me. The spring then supplies the needed tension.Looks like its stainless steel and matches my chrome bathroom fixtures well. A week in of daily showers in a hot a humid summer and there is no rust marks. For those looking its also only in two pieces. Which is how shower rods should be. Seems to be quite a trend of companies breaking down pole-based products into little 1 foot long sections you screw together, and they always break easily. This is properly made, with each half being one piece. The only quip is the white foam "feet" that help it grip the wall show against the wall if you look closely. Its style is a little plain, but I don't mind it. I like minimalism.

Good quality and value
This Amazon Basics Tension Curtain Rod, Adjustable 78-108" Width - Black, Classic Finial is working out great so far. I have it extended to about 82" and am hanging two blackout curtains on it. The curtains themselves aren't very heavy and so far, so good.

Fairly easy, sturdy
So far it seems to be staying up, was not too hard to set up, the rod arrives in one piece unlike some others I have recently tried. You turn it to adjust the tension. Getting it perfect was a slight struggle but it's because of recent surgery lifting my arms high for any length of time is difficult. Even so I managed it. The price was good as well.
