Arm yourself with this RR Armoured Cars book
An authoritatively-written and well-presented book on a subject about which little is known even within the Rolls-Royce enthusiast movement. The excellent illustrations and informative captions are capped off by several colour drawings by Henry Morshead of various types of Rolls-Royce armoured car. Perhaps the best of these is the centre-spread, cutaway drawing that evokes pleasant memories of the work of L. Ashwell Wood in the 'Eagle' comic paper of yesteryear. This book is highly recommended to anyone interested in the history of Rolls-Royce cars and/or armoured fighting vehicles.

Rolls Royce Armoured Cars
Unlike the previous reviews I found this most interesting. It is a history,a technical history,of the Rolls Royce Armoured Car. The New Vanguard Series is about the weapon not about its use. This is really the first, easily accessible, technical history of this historic vehicle. It covers its development and explains that no two cars were identical there were many variations, both to "in service" vehicles and newly issued vehicles. There are some excellent photos of cars including the additions and alterations made by the RAF and the different turrets for the Indian Pattern cars, rerely discussed in other histories. There are also the first photo I have seen of Rolls Royce's in Shanghai in 1927 with the interesting "Top Hat"cupolas. For me the strength of this account is that it describes not only the "Original" 1915 Pattern but also alterations made to it,the 1920 Pattern and modifications, the RAF Pattern, and alterations made to both 1915 and 1920 Patterns for India and Ireland, the 1924 Pattern and finally the mounting of various bodies on Fordson chassis just prior to World War II. By this time they were toltally obsolete. In short an excellent introduction to an iconic vehicle. If you want to know what they were like to crew read "Steel Chariots in the Dessert" Rolls S.C. "War Cars" by David Fletcher HMSO is good for WW I coverage.

Good read.
A very informative book on the RR armoured car. Not perhaps the last word but useful if like me you had little knowledge of the subject.

Too little on WW2 usage
Unfortunately I cannot give full marks to this nice booklet as I am afraid that its WW2 contents is not satisfactory, at least for me. I was expecting a detailed coverage of these armoured cars epics against the Italians in the first stages of the war but the space devoted to it is on the verge of being irrelevant whilst the text appears sketchy and far from conclusive. Though I understand that there are space constraints in this kind of booklets, on the other hand I just wish to warn potential buyers interested like me in WW2 that they might not find what they are looking for.

A historic overview of a armoured car that served in 2 world wars
a great insight to the first real armoured car that served in 2 world wars and was the car that helped to police an Empire.
