A very good book for kids to learn from. Very clear instructions, easy to follow. Well organised layout of pictures etc.a very handy book to refresh from , from time to time. Worth getting if your a complete novice. Print delivery.

Very good explanation of how to slice braid on braid rope and many other types of rope.

The booklet is small and detailed. Unfortunately it is in black and white with no colour used and this makes some of the splices difficult to work through.

This book has all the information I need and more in one easy to read and understand book. A good buy.

Ce livre m'était conseillé par le site suite à la commande d"un autre ouvrage. Les illustrations tout comme les commentaires sont très (...trop) rétro. Je suis déçu.

I was just a little disappointed in this book but not through any fault of Barbara Merry. It was entirely my fault for not recognizing that it was a different cover on the Great Britain release of the same second edition that I already had. I really consider it to be a five star book but having gotten the third edition to give to a friend, I have seen that she has included even more information in that. I will have to get myself a copy of the third edition and since I won't be able to give it six stars, I need to leave some 'headroom' to rate the new version. As was the case with the first edition, Barbara gives excellent instruction for each splice. I was even able to do a passable job on my first attempt at splicing braid to wire. I have recommended this book (well, the USA edition which varies only in the cover and the publisher's page) many times and have been thanked for doing so each time. If you want to learn to splice there is only one reason not to get this book and that is because there is a new improved version with all the good stuff from here and some more added in.

Black and white pictures not very hrelpful.

DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! The text is confusing and the drawings unclear. When I sent the author an email for help she suggested I look at a different handbook - so I did - and you should as well. Instead of wasting $$$ just go on the web - all major rope manufacturers have clear concise splicing instructions on their websites - for free.

Good book, but the illustrations are not up to snuff. If you don't already have some clue about what you're doing, it's not going to be a cake walk.

I thought this book was a good read for anyone interestied in learning the different types of splices used in marine applications. Some of the procedures were a bit difficult to undersatnd but if one sticks with it they work out.

Always leery of 'used' products, however Amazon seems to represent vendors that are truthful in their assessment. I am satisfied.
