The United Kingdom has a longer history interacting with the Continental, making it more difficult to be understood than other new countries like Canada or Australia. This guide book provides a concise yet comprehensive overview of the history, culture, geography and government of the United Kingdom. I know many people passed the Life test by memorising all the answers from mock exam books. But I personally believe this is not a pleasant way to prepare the test. I recommend reading this book not just for the test and also for your leisure, and for better understanding this island.

This is THE book you need to prepare for your Life in the UK exam. Nicely written, lots of illustrations, well structured.

I got the book in April, took the test at the end of July, and passed the first time. You don't need this much time to prepare though. If you're studying an hour or so each day, you can probably be ready in about a month.the first part of the book (the history part) was the hardest for me and the one I spent most of my studying time on. Because there are so many names and connections and events it was harder for me to retain. The second part is more easy to keep in memory and some of it is just common knowledge (or common sense, to be honest).The book itself is very sturdy & durable, yet thin and light, so it was very easy for me to take it everywhere and use bits and bobs of spare time to refresh my memory or start a new chapter.The font is a good comfortable size for me, it's not too densely written, the paragraphs are relatively short. There are images and key questions/things to consider/summary boxes which I found useful.Lots of dates are mentioned but keep in mind that dates are not asked during the test.The book itself doesn't include practice tests so you may need to get your hands on those. Most of the questions are not really difficult, but some are phrased a little tricky. I personally did not read any other material except of this book. For the practice tests I purchased the past papers book, but this is not essential. There are past papers online you can take as well as an app, so you don't need to spend more.Very useful tool for the test, I do recommend.

Great reading material but I'm not too happy with Kindle's DMR restrictions. They are not obvious until you want to share the e-book with a friend (like a normal hardcopy or other EPUB formats) but "no way José", that's not allowed here.

Great book about living in England. But you don't have to want to move to England to find this book tremendously helpful. It covers UK history, the political system, how the BBC is paid for, and much more that you would never find in a travel guide. If you love all things England, this book provides an in-depth look at life in England, the laws, and more.

So, using this book in conjunction with the online/app based practice tests is the best way to measure your readiness for the exam.This book is not designed as a be all - end all of UK history, you will not learn anything earth shattering or end up with a PhD when you get to the last page.Read the book, download the app and take the 22 (?) practice exams until you know the material inside out.Then schedule your exam. Simple.
