Bought as a gift great little book

I purchased for my husband who lives, breaths, eats, sleeps and of course rides bikes EVERY DAY. He is actually very pleased with this book.

............. for this kind of book. I say that because there was a similar book called "Made in England" which was just horrendous. This author has managed to avoid the nonsense that appeared therein and created a book of great interest to the connoisseur. Just a couple of niggles: Quite a few great artisans were missing while others were included who perhaps do not quite fit the description of 'artisan'. Why Neil Pryde but no Condor? If you include Neil Pryde, why not Planet X? Where is Vanilla? But I guess it would be difficult to included everyone!

Its not a book for my present requirement but a specialised & technical view of a wide range of available designs.

excellent for cycling / bike fans , interesting range of makers and specialists

This book takes a very sweeping look at bicycle design and frame building, focusing mostly on the recent wave of frame builders in the US, however, with notable omissions of builders such as Richard Sachs. It has some great images and photos, but the written content is little more than a paragraph about each builder, that could have been written with little interaction with the subject. This is classic Thames & Hudson aiming very much at the mainstream, and so may not be suitable for enthusiasts looking for more in depth information about the nuances of frame building. There are also some very bizarre inclusions such as Foffa and BikeByMe.

The craftsmanship and creativity displayed in this book is impressive. The photography was excellent, too. I especially enjoyed the photos that went inside some of the shops and showed the frames at various stages of development. Most of the equipment isn't high tech, in fact just the opposite with old and well used mills and lathes. Interestingly, some of the shops were meticulous, others looked more like mine! The publisher should've made the pages waterproof, however. You'll drool, too, over some of these exquisite rides. If you're looking to take a frame building class, this is a must read. This book is aptly named! Enjoy!

As many styles and designs as imaginable; I enjoyed the variety of materials as well as the profiles of the artisans.
