Good buy
I didn't experience any of the negative things in other reviews. The machine looks good, seems well built and has many connections built in. It replaced a 10 year old Lenovo running win 7. The new lenovo's did not have the features of this Acer at nearly this price range so I took a chance. The screen is bright and crisp, the keyboard fine to the touch, and it is plenty fast (although I don't do gaming). Setup was long and tedious because I did a clean install of Win 11 to avoid most of the bloat. And was surprised to learn that you now rent MS Office rather than own. But I'd recommend this machine.

Great for our highschooler
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-347N Slim Laptop has proven to be a great choice for our son's high school needs. The 15.6" Full HD IPS display provides a clear and vibrant visual experience, while the 11th Gen Intel i3-1115G4 Dual Core Processor ensures smooth performance for various tasks. The 8GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB NVMe SSD contribute to quick and efficient multitasking and fast storage access. The inclusion of WiFi 6 and Amazon Alexa adds modern connectivity and convenience features. The fact that it comes with Windows 11 Home in S Mode is a nice touch. Overall, this laptop offers a solid combination of performance and features, making it well-suited for high school use. Highly recommended for students in need of a reliable and capable laptop.

First Impressions: Updated + Update #2
Update #2: After about a year of use, still love it. For those saying the 128GB SSD is too small, simply add a 1 TB SSD or old HDD as I did (d: drive) in the available motherboard slot for your apps, games movies, etc.). I did add 4gb of additional ram (now has 12gb) since I had it laying around, but it really didn't need it - ran fine with 8gb.One negative: Who ever designed the power port should be fired. It's a 1/8" jack and not robust at all. I hit the cable the wrong way and it goes into batter mode. The jack is a piece of crap and should have been made bigger (like a USB size or 1/4").Follow my instructions below to clean up the OS, etc. and this thing runs like a champ...Update:(After several months of using): Love it! Solid as a rock. It is what it is. A.K.A. Not necessarily the best components (you get what you pay for) but if you know what you're doing (to clean it up), Delete S mode, add a secondary SDD or HDD drive (in my case an old 1 TB HDD), 4 or 8 GB additional RAM (doesn't really need it, delete all the bloatware, disable the items in startup, tighten up all the privacy settings, etc., this thing runs great (everything including sound (some people seem to have issues - but mine's fine). Not heating up, no slowing down. Bargain for what you get...-----------------------------------------------Purchased this to replace on older Acer laptop (which is going to the wife to replace her older POS HP). Originally wanted an Acer with a backlit keyboard (like my current one has) but Amazon couldn't seem to send me the correct laptop (twice), so I opted for this one (good price, decent CPU, and 8 GB RAM installed).Went with ACER since I'm happy with my current one, plus it allows you to add more memory, upgrade the NVMe SSD, and an an additional SDD / HDD (which I plan to do. The 8GB of RAM seems to be doing fine but I haven't really pushed it yet. The NVMe SSD is half full, but once I install the 1TB HDD from my old laptop I'll load any new programs, music, etc. on that. This laptop is what it is. Not high end, and not as solid as my old Acer (keyboard not as solid, etc.) but it's fine so far (except I wish it had a backlit keyboard - miss that). * Task manager indicates that only one of the two slots are being used by the 8GB RAM (I thought they may have added 4 GB in the 2nd slot to bring it up to 8GB), so, if that's the case, I may add an additional 8GB in the 2nd slot (good idea to add the same size RAM in the 2nd slot, but not absolutely necessary).I had the intent of downgrading to Windows 10 since that's what I'm use to, but decided to stay with Windows 11. It took a few hours to get used to 11 but in fact, it's not much different then 10 once you get things set up how you want it. I immediately disabled unwanted apps under task manager startup, deleted unwanted apps (lots of Microsoft crap, and others), turned off S mode, turned off all privacy settings (disabled all the privacy settings that were turned on), and other tweaks. You can Google "how to make Windows 11 faster" for a start for recommended settings / tweaks. The sound's a bit weak but good enough (speakers are pretty much crap, but what do you expect in a laptop). There's not much for color / display adjustment, and certain screens look a bit washed out, while others are very vivid (youtube 4K/8K videos look great). Trackpad works fine (can't stand the tap feature but that can be turned off under the touchpad settings. Some people report that the laptop gets hot and the fan blows (and is loud) because of that. I have not seen any indication of that yet (and I hope I don't. My wife's HP gets extremely hot and the fan is constantly blowing, and I hate it, so I'm relieved that this one is not like that (so far). For the price, and if all you plan to do is surf the Web, check email, stream videos, etc., I highly recommend this laptop. * So far, so good...

Zippy lightweight laptop, excellent for the price!
This laptop is fast, great screen quality. Easy to set up when it arrived. As long as you have internet it walks you through the rest. It comes with a trial version of Microsoft 365 for one month which gives you Word, Excel, etc. After one month, if you want to keep it, you are charged $100 per year which i did since i thought it was worth it to have all those applications. Also gives you Microsoft one drive to back up the computer, docs, pics, etc. It wakes up from sleep very quickly. I like that the keyboard has a number pad, nicer than the traditional lap top keyboard with the numbers at the top. Battery life is great as reported. Does not have a CD drive but no big deal. Have had for 2-3 months and would buy again.

Excellent laptop for the money
Bought mine from Amazon for 299.00. Can't beat it for the money. Slim, lightweight. Keyboard has a nice feel for touch typists. Has extra internal slots for adding more Ram & Storage. Acer includes a hardware package for storage expansion. Also included are 2 stick on sliding camera covers you manually slide open or closed, very nice and handy. With added ram (upgraded mine to 20gb) it's fine for gaming.

awful support for a nonworking computer in warranty.
Today is July 8th 2025, I ordered this computer on August 15th 2024 with Amazon. The computer screen is frozen. Called the Acer people and have been told that the waranty is over, unable to speak to a live person. Wasted $400= dollars.

really really good value
really fast computer. good keyboard, wifi, screen, it checks the boxes and delivers. incredible price. everything is working fine. i 100% recommend these laptops. i also own high end computers (samsung, lg and lenovo) and this laptop isn't the crafted quality of those but it also isn't the $800+ added cost.

this is a great laptop for anyone
I love Acer computers, this was a gift to a young man going to college, I originally bought it for myself, my keyboard is toast on my old acer [have had it for 10 years and used daily] I circumvented the problem for now with a gaming keyboard and just plugged that in to my laptop! LOL works great as you can see, I will be buying a acer laptop next month as I intend to use my keyboard on my desktop! Acer is the only laptop I will consider buying because they last longer, they update great and are a great computer for the money! this laptop does everything I want it to and last for years!
