Whip It [DVD]

I bought this DVD after reading a review on Youtube.I was watching live recordings,if that makes sense,of WFTDA games.It wasn't quite what I wanted but was entertaining enough not to complain.It certainly had its redeeming features.As others have said,it was produced byDrew Barrymore and is a lighthearted comedy about a teenager who isinspired to take up Roller Derby because her life is boring and going nowhere.The film uses the old sloped skating rink 'destruction' derby rather than the modernFlat Track version so there's some mild violence and anger outburst issues.The film serves as an introduction to the sport and shows how it can becomeaddictive,especially if you make friends easily,even opposing teams supporteach other.I bought it second hand and at the low price,wasn't disappointed.There are some extras too,explaining some scenes in the film.

I really like this film. I really like the light hearted sensibility behind this film. I have rewatched quite a few times, and I cannot think of any criticisms.

this film is a little different to others i dont know how many roller derby films are out there but i enjoyed this manly because i had no idea about roller derby before i watched it - i now know someone who plays roller derby for our local film and she likes the film so i think thats a good thing.I enjoyed the story, i enjoyed the actors and i enjoyed the overall good fun of the film - it wasnt too serious but still had a good storylineGood film, good delivery, good buy

I saw this movie at the cinema when it first came out, my friend liked it but i instantly fell in love with it. I had never heard of roller derby before seeing this movie but it made me look into it and i found out there was a league in my area! Now i am in love with roller derby and i love this movie. It's not just for fans of roller derby though... it's perfect for teenagers, it's a gritty, funny, heartfelt movie (and i love how she handles the guy).

Did I really buy this? Might appeal to the younger person but if you are over-25 then, despite some of the good reviews, you might find this as uninspiring as I did.

Nothing like actual roller derby but watchable for sure

Loved this film, only reason for 4 stars is there were a few 'dips' in the film where it became obvious what would happen next. Better storyline than I expected too.

loved this film Ellen Paige is great , lovely coming of age story . with feisty strong independent girls and women.
