Memories Of Moonlighting
I was a huge Moonlighting fan in the 80's and I still am today. This show was smart, funny and very highly inventive, there are so many things they did first,if not the only show that ever did it.Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis had an explosive chemistry that had not been witnessed before on television,it set the standard for every couple that came after. This show was a fan and critic favorite, winning and being nominated for many awards, particularly for its acting, writing, directing and producing. It is on just about every list of greatest shows and greatest episodes ever. With all that going for it the behind the scenes drama could be another series all by itself. There were writing and production delays, the actors had a lot going on in their personal lives and ABC expected too much, like 22 perfect episodes with high creativity and high ratings and returning for the fall season, regardless, even with a writers strike. In today's world this show would've been treated better and the actors would've been given more accommodations.Scott Ryan's book takes us back to the 80's and how it really was behind this series, all the immense highs and intense lows.He interviewed all the major players, except for Bruce Willis, who had a scheduling conflict. You get every point of view and you feel for what they all went through and were trying hard to achieve. The book is an excellent testimony to an excellent series. The photos are beautiful and the book is filled with them. This is the definitive book that this groundbreaking show deserved. This series should be streaming and airing and the DVD's should be put back in print. If you ever get the chance to watch it,you should, but definitely read the book, you will learn what it really takes to put excellence on the air.

Wow! Impressive piece of work on a favourite TV series
I could literally write a short book myself on how good and informative this oral history of Moonlighting is.It is rare to find another Moonlighting fan who was as crazy as I was for the series but I know Scott and I would get on like a house on fire over Moonlighting. To this day I can quote lines from the series and often do. I can finish the lines off before the characters. With the original run I never missed an episode. Each chapter I read was exciting to me. I knew what episode Scott was writing about before it was even mentioned and I would see the scene in my mind as clear as a summers day.I was that person who called Maddie and David my friends (I was a lonely teenager), I was the person gutted when David stood in the rain in Maddie's doorway with Mark Harmon standing there. I was angry at Maddie for marring Walter Bishop and distraught about the baby. My life was over when Moonlighting ended and I mourned for weeks. That was what Moonlighting was to me.This is an incredible piece of work and a must read for Moonlighting fans.Scott if you ever do a podcast on Moonlighting, I'd love to be a guest :)

Imprescindible

This is the Moonlighting book you didn’t know you were waiting for
For some reason, until now there has never been a serious book on the history of this groundbreaking television show. Scott Ryan’s book was worth the wait. It is chock full of interviews with the people behind the scenes who made it happen while they’re still around to tell us. Yes, Bruce Willis is not among those interviewed, but the book nonetheless provides a very clear picture of the hectic, seat-of-the-pants production under Glenn Gordon Caron, and puts the show’s infamous problems in far better perspective. This is a remarkable record of the show preserved for posterity. The most important takeaway from the book for budding TV writers is that the so-called “Moonlighting Curse” is a myth. In fact, the writers had plenty of ideas for handling a spicy, on-again, off-again relationship. But those ideas ended up having to remain on the shelf. What really doomed the show’s future were ill-timed events beyond the control of the producers that began just as the sexual story arc entered production - Cybill Shepherd’s pregnancy, a writers strike and, to a far lesser degree, Willis’ newfound movie stardom. In fact, Ryan flips the “curse” theory on its head, and suggests that if Maddie and David hadn’t consummated their relationship at the end of third season, the show may have ended without them EVER coming together.
