I enjoyed this book enough to continue reading it. It is adult enough that I can read it without rolling my eyes but at the same time, some of it is just too obvious... It has all the typical tropes. But I digress. This story begins w a mortal who lives in basically a bubble w others of her kind that are ruled over by fae and an evil king (king of light Oberon) who rules over all of them via fear. Their whole bubble is protected by the kings power. There's another king (shadow king Kalen) beyond their chasm who wants to tear down this bubble so they can finish the war that started everything almost 500 years ago. as is the fae way, they're all tricksters and can smell lies. Tessa isn't smart enough to twist truths and well, she doesn't know what's true and what's twisted to get her to do things anyway. This book left me with a ton of questions. I'm still confused why Oberon has horns, etc and the other fae have not been described as such, including Kalen. All of the other questions are more to do w the fact this book has lots of cliffhangers. You'll definitely have to read the next one to get those answers. I know i have characters im interested in seeing again; i just love(d) badass Midnight the horse and how he was more than he seemed. As usual, Jenna wolfhart writes well. its an interesting premise and a unique world that she has developed. This is an enemy to lover romance for sure and unfortunately has that typical "I'm just so drawn to him I can't think" type of instalove that you know will be realized. No sex yet but there's enough moments to keep those readers interested. Foul language for those who care about that sort of thing.

Talk about whiplash!
So much back and forth, hate him, love him, hate him.MFC is human and is forced to become the light fae kings bride, the king that has killed her family and made her life a nightmare. She escapes to the shadow king territory where she starts to form feelings only to find out he also lied to her and used her.So back to the light kingdom she runs to try to free her family where she finds out some more truths that just throw this whole story sideways. It'd a great story, it is back and forth explaining what she grew up going through as well as back and forth from points of views between MFC and the shadow king. There is some heavy scenes of kissing and touching but they do t get very far, which I was waiting for but now I think something like a mated bond would have flared up (only a guess)Book 2 better have some answers, I was totally team Shadow King!

Solid First Book
This book had me hooked from the first sentence. I really liked Tessa and Kalen, and I really enjoy stories where the hero is supposed to be a villain, but things aren't what they seem. This book had a lot of my favorite tropes:-One Bed Trope-Misunderstood hero-Things aren't as they appearThe only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read was the ending. I will absolutely be reading the second book.

Two kings..one mortal girl, will the realm survive?
I was hooked from the very first chapter, a decent pace in my opinion. Not alot of spice like I was told. Well written of course, with that cliffhanger I will be reading book two. Good job to the author.

Cliffhanger
I have to say I really liked this book. A world where fae rule over humans and they don't know the difference. That was a good change. The characters I love though you don't know who to trust. You think you have it figured out but you dont. Must read!

Could not put down!!
I found this book thru a TikTok video and let me tell you….I could not put this book down. I finished it in two days. It was so good, and every page left me wanting more. I died inside with the first books ending, I already preordered the next one and can not WAIT until it is out. This is the first time in a long time I really enjoyed a book this much. Hoping for a little more “spice” next book!

Don't miss this great fantasy!
I thoroughly enjoyed Of Mist and Shadow. Tessa, a human, is caught stealing gemstones from King Oberon, the fae king of Albyria. He "punishes" her by choosing her as his mortal bride. However, he doesn't count on her rebellious nature, and she finds a way to escape him. In her escape, she is found by Kalen, the Mist King. From the very beginning of this book, Ms. Wolfhart pulls you into the life of Tessa as she struggles to overcome being a human, living in the world of the fae. It ends in a cliffhanger, which will make it difficult to wait until December and the second book! If you enjoy a good, exciting fantasy, this is one you shouldn't miss!

slow start and unexpected
The start of the book was a bit slow for me to get into but once the action started it went quickly. Some unexpected moments helped too.

I wanted more Kalen
I really wanted more Kalen. Tessa was really insufferable, she was foolish and got others hurt/killed due to her irrational decisions. Kalen was a much more interesting character and he was sidelined most of the time. There wasn’t even any steam as TikTok promised. Just making out and a grope. I was really enjoying this until the third act which had a cop out twist, felt rushed and the ending was just so sudden. I wanted to know more about Kalen’s backstory, who used to live in Tessa’s house, more about the shadow court. The world building was good though and Kalen but the rest was meh.. and don’t get me started on the pookas.

You must be myst-taken, the truth behind the lies.
Oh my god, that was absolutely amazing. This book starts with a beautifully designed map of the world setting, something that I really loved about it. The storyline is filled with so many twists that I felt dizzy, with every page I forgot to put it down for breaks. The intensity hits you in every chapter, along with an emotional rollercoaster that tugs at your heart. Tessa, Kalen and even Oberon are all fantastic characters. The cliffhanger at the end is going to drive me out of my mind waiting for the next book in the series, I'm really desperate for book 2 I want to know what happens so badly. This series is definitely up there on the top of my list of most exciting and unpredictable books, anything can happen and all rules go out the window on this. But it's what I loved the most, I am definitely buying the paperbacks for my collection.

Brilliant read
Thoroughly enjoyed this first book - has all my fave tropes and the character development and world building was very good. Roll on book 2!
