The Protectors of Boone County
This is another great book in The Protectors of Boone County, Texas series. This was what I would call a slow burn mystery. I know most people think of a slow burn romance, but this was the only way I could think of to describe it. You had action, but it was not constant. However, every clue or piece of the puzzle built the mystery even further, which definitely kept me glued to the pages.Noah Reed is an officer with a sister for his boss. Ugh... right? His sister, Cassie Reed, is the Sheriff. To make matters even harder for Noah, his brother is the Deputy Sheriff. Law enforcement runs in the veins of this family as you will learn. Noah feels he is ready to handle things on his own, but he feels that Cassie is holding him back. When Cassie introduces her newest deputy, Bree Delgado, to Noah and informs him that he will be training her, he is not a happy man. He does not want to be a babysitter. He soon learns that he will not have to babysit Bree. She is a highly intelligent officer who spots clues that he misses. She has recently left the force in San Antonio so she is well-trained, but she needs to learn about the community.Bree is keeping a secret which could cause her to lose her job. I will not share the secret. You will have to read the book. There is a burglary at the local high school, which in and of itself seems minor. The stolen items are very random. As you read further and more crimes are committed, you start seeing a pattern that all of this stuff might be related. I love puzzles, and this mystery was a fine tuned puzzle which kept you guessing until the end. There was a little romance, definitely plenty of intrigue and suspense, and also a little humor mixed in. Noah is quite the character. I really liked the character of Noah. He enjoyed life and took things serious when necessary, but he also knew how to relax. Bree is a hard nut to crack at first, but I liked her more as each chapter progressed.Leslie Marshman did a bang up job of building up the mystery and suspense in this one. If you enjoy a good mystery with a little brewing romance, you will read this one in one sitting like I did.Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a great series!
Resolute Aim is the second book in the Protectors of Boone County series by Leslie Marshman. It checks the boxes for a gripping storyline, characters you can relate to and laugh with, and a soft and easy romance that takes you on the couple's romantic journey. Resolute Aim opens with a bang, quite literally, and keeps you gripped until the final page.Noah Reed has a chip on his shoulder that's going nowhere fast, just like him. His sister, Sheriff Cassie Reed, still sees him as her little brother and refuses to give him the lead on big cases. Despite his efforts to prove himself, she continues to treat him unfairly compared to the rest of his brothers who work there.Bree Delgado has a secret, and if it gets out, she will be in a world of hurt with her new deputy position in Resolute. She's all about keeping it to herself, but her new partner, Noah Reed, has other plans. When Noah is paired with Bree for a week to teach her the ropes, they catch what should be a straightforward case of burglary at the high school. The task may be simple, but Noah sensed that his new partner was anything but. She was a complicated mess, and he would do anything to make her smile.Their 'simple' burglary case turns sinister the more they dig into the people who work at the high school and the stolen items. It wasn't long, and they had a body, which for Resolute, was not the norm. The more they dug, the more they angered someone who didn't want their connection to the meth houses known.I loved this book because the pacing was perfect, and you were never left bored while they moved through the case. Something was always going on that kept you interested, even during Noah and Bree's downtime. I won't reveal Bree's secret, as I think it's important for the reader to learn it at the same time Noah does, but his soft touch is very sweet. If you love law enforcement intrigues with a storyline that is very timely, along with a sweet romance that will make you smile, then you don't want to miss Resolute Aim!

A great romantic suspense story
Resolute isn’t the quiet sleepy little town Bree Delgado thought it was when she joined the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Right from the start, a meth house explodes and what follows are a series of crimes and murders that may or may not be related to the meth house.Bree has been paired with Noah Reed and she isn’t too happy about it. Noah likes to talk and joke and Bree finds it annoying. Bree doesn’t want to talk too much because she has a secret; one that could change what people think about her and could put her partner’s life in jeopardy. But Noah doesn’t stand down. He is attracted to Bree and wants to know her better. What will Noah think of Bree once she tells him what happened when she was a police officer in San Antonio? Will Bree even have a job once the truth is revealed?I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was an exciting, on the edge of your seat type of book. I never knew what would happen next. I am really loving this book series. But just because it’s a series, these books can also be read as stand-alones.
