Excellent solution for playing Sega Master System Carts/Cards and Game Gear games on the Retron 5. Simply insert into the Megadrive /Genesis slot, insert your cart or card and your away. Well priced and is a well made sturdy piece of kit. Please note: I only purchased a Retron 5 recently and it arrived with all the latest firmware updates installed. You will need to update to the latest version if you have an older Retron 5 to allow the adapter to work. Purchased on Amazon marketplace from the States and arrived a day earlier than expected.

From my entire collection it only plays a couple of games... It does not even play Sonic 2 on Game Gear....

I wanted to write a review about this product just in case any retrofreak owners have been doing research and were wanting to play/collect game gear and master system games, I struggled to find a definitive answer on whether this was compatible with the retrofreak or not! I took a chance and bought one and can confirm this DOES WORK perfectly with the retrofreak!!! I would recommend getting this over retrofreaks own version because not only is it half the price, but this one plays the European carts for the master system, retrofreaks own version only plays mark III Japan carts due to having a much smaller cartridges slot. The only thing you need to be aware of is that your retrofreak needs the latest version of the firmware installed, this is very easy to do and the retrofreak site now has clear instructions on their English site. I saw many reviews saying this didn’t work on the retro freak but I suspect it was because they were running older firm ware. These adapters are just pin adapters and the retro freak and retron adapter have the exact same inner designs, it’s the firmware that needs the update to be able to read master system software. If you contact hyperlink they will tell you they don’t think it’s compatible with retrofreak but I can 100% confirm it does! Beautifully! Also looks better ;)

Very easy worked for me straight out of the box simple plug and play unit

So got this to play master system games on retro bit. That works, there maybe cheaper options but it works and I presume on a mega drive as well. Game gear games read but graphics on some wrong and controller doesn’t seem to work for playing the games. This is warned In reviews but does allow you to test a game gear cartridge.

I have a vast collection of Game Gear games and this adapter nearly played the lot, except all Codemaster games would not work for some reason, which was a real shame. An update might come out later for this problem but still, it was a great buy, recommended!

Great to play master system/game gear/game cards on the retron 5. Works perfectly and less bulkier than the official megadrive/genesis adapter. As always with the retron 5,easy to put carts in...slightly harder to pull them out. lol

Dank dieses Adapters kann ich endlich wieder meine alten Game Gear Spiele - und das noch dazu erstmalig im Original am Fernseher - spielen! Ich habe Versionen unterschiedlicher Regionen (EU / US / JP) ausprobiert und alles funktioniert einwandfrei und flüssig. Auch Master System Module laufen super. Ich finde das Konzept genial und hoffe Hyperkin bringt noch Adapter für weitere Systeme heraus. Der Preis ist vor allem im Vergleich zur Konsole selbst etwas hoch, aber meiner Meinung nach mehr als angemessen. Auch die Verarbeitung ist gut. Würde ich jederzeit wieder kaufen!

I bought it for mostly game gear use. Works great. Although strange to play game gear with a super famicom controller.

O adaptador"retron" com os cartuchos de master system funcionam perfeitamente nos meus clones do mega drive ...testei meus castuchos de game gear e infelizmente não funcionaram nos meu clones de console mega drive..😱 Fica a dica esse adptador com cartuchos de Master system nos clones e console original mega drive funciona mais o botão pause do master system não funciona.😭.. Deve funcionar melhor no(retron)o multi clone com o software adequado para esse adaptador.. Nesse adptador deveria ter o botão pause para o master system.mais com o tempo vou comprar o retron quando o preço cair é claro..😅.
