Good planter - but have a Band-Aid ready
The planter was bought as a present so I can't comment on the efficacy of this tool. It seems to be sturdily made and should do the job in the sandy soil where it will be used.On the example purchased, the protective ferrule shown in the picture is not fitted. Instead, the tube forming the handle is left open at the point shown in the photograph, and there was a dangerous sharp burr all round the end of the tube, ready to catch the unwary. The burr was removed with a file before giving the present, but this sort of corrective work should not be necessary. In view of this safety consideration I have only given three stars.

planter
used it to plant bulbs in grass in my garden and after a wee while the pole started to bend so we went back to our hand held one

Robust
It all started so well, pushed it in, pulled it out, complete with plug of earth. The second hole not so easy. By the fifth I was losing the will to live BUT I was planting bulbs in the orchard and it is clay soil. My son took over and could accomplish the task but wasn't keen on 500 holes. It is a robust too, it is fit for purpose and in borders works well. However, on clay soil it needs some strength to manipulate it. After reading some previous reviews I thought it might be a flimsy piece of apparatus but it is not. I will persevere with it and it so long handle makes it ideal for those with bad backs or wonky knees who want to plant up their borders.

Very Good Service
The item was delivered 5 days early. I suppose if I was younger it would be easy to use.

Poor quality
At first it seemed a sound product But once put into action it became apparent Its not fit for purpose as its main claim is Heavy Duty I have clay soil which is the reason for buying a heavy duty bulb planter Although the planter is of sturdy construction Its Achilles heal is the Nuts & bolts holding the planter onto the handle These are not fit for purpose As within a few minutes of work became loose It would seem a logical step forward to in fact to weld these parts together Then you would get a more robust planter I would NOT recommend this to anyone who has heavy soil As it is

Not fit for purpose
Unable to use this item, once you placed it in the ground to make the hole, you are unable to get the soil out the bottom, waste of money

Hallelujah!
My dear old mum said she'd bought "a few bulbs" and asked me to plant them. Turned out "a few" meant six hundred!I lost the will to live after a couple of days and bought this. It's brilliant! Some people don't seem to understand how to use it. Here's what you do:1) Push it into the ground then pull out a plug of dirt;2) Put the bulb in the hole;3) Push it in the ground again to make a hole for bulb #2 - as you do that, the plug of dirt from hole #1 pops out of the top and you use that to fill hole #1.4) Repeat with hole #3 and so on.There's no need to fiddle around, dislodging the plug of earth. The only plug of earth you need to extract by hand is the very last one.I hope that made sense! This is a great tool.
