Practical No-Till Farming: A Quick and Dirty Guide to Organic Vegetable and Flower Growing
M**A
Disappointing advertisement for author's magazine
I was looking forward to this book given the author's background, but this turned out to be one of the least informative books on no-till farming currently available. Yes, it's a "quick and dirty" guide in that the author doesn't go into much detail about anything and instead references/advertises that further info for each topic is available in his magazine publication. I wouldn't even recommend this for someone starting out as the author throws around a lot of terms and concepts without defining them. What little information there is, is just repeated over and over: tilling = bad, adding organic matter to soil = good, and use cover crops and a crimper to terminate them. That's it. Despite the gist of the book being about cover crops and crimpers, the author doesn't even go into much detail about either topic. All specifics are addressed with statements like "talk to local growers in your area to learn what to do" or "see article __________ from my magazine."I'm not entirely sure why they threw "flower farming" on the cover because there's only a couple of paragraphs at the back of the book geared towards flower farming, and like the rest of the book, there's almost 0 useful info in those paragraphs.
