Best barn boot I know.
I guess Ariat is branching out in to the world of hiking but that is not what I use these boots for. So if you are looking for a hiking boot review dismiss my review. My review is based off wearing these boots for working in the barn and riding horses. I love these boots for working around the barn and hopping on the horse for a trail ride. I live in central Texas so I have not experience with these boots in heavy ice or snow. I have been a fan of Ariat for a while now and wore a pair for 7 years until the dog got a hold of them and chewed off the tops. I bought these as a replacement and I really like them. Basically: They are super easy to brush clear because of the waterproofing. I just let the mud dry on them and brush them with a semi-stiff brush. I would imagine that after a year or two of wearing them 3 -5 days a week I will need deep clean them and add a new waterproofing film. They are more water resistant then waterproof. I would not put my foot in a deep puddle and leave it there. However, I have yet to feel any moisture from getting sprayed with the hose, wet grass, deep mud, rain, etc. Defiantly an improvement on the original Terrain boot. They are really comfortable for lots of walking around the area, mucking stalls, and walking through muddy turn outs. No blisters EVER! You do need to break them in a bit in the beginning because they are a bit stiff in the ankles. The laces have to be double knotted. They are absolutely horse safe. The heel is about a quarter inch and the toe, although not steal toed, is beefy enough to protect toes that may get under hoof :/ They do have a tread but it is limited and won't interfere in a Western or English stirrup. If you ride western, there is nothing, IMO, more comfortable to school your horse in then these. They have a good spur rest if you use spurs. If you ride hunt seat, these are get for the barn and I have used half chaps over them several times with no discomfort. If you are jumping or riding a speed for a long time you may want a boot that has more snug fit against your ankle.

Most lightweight yet solidly made comfortable boot you’ll ever own.
These are my second pair in this style, the other styles don’t feel the same ( to me) I love the fit, they are lightweight, durable - they have seen me through rain, sleet ,snow and uneven terrain. They do not require a break in period. They are good to go right out of the box. I wear them just about every day. It’s the kind of shoe you hope they don’t stop manufacturing with the same quality materials and oversight.

Super shoe! I am the queen of blisters
Super shoe! I am the queen of blisters, after 3-4 hour hikes I go home with tons of blisters, some bleeding with skin rubbed off and some with trapped blood underneath, calluses with blood trapped underneath, black toes (long middle toes and big toes with tendency for ingrown nails), and I have flat feet. Sorry for the TMI back there but if you hike for long hours you will know what I am talking about. I hike in the Badlands trails in North Dakota and I don't know how they compare to trails elsewhere, but I can tell you that these trails are not easy and mild according to their description. I got a small scratch on the shoe after the first wear because I hit a sharp rock as I was climbing up. These shoes did not need breaking in, I received them 2 days before I went on a 6 hour hike, I wore them around the house for a few minutes to make sure I got the right size. They are wide enough that my toes do not get squished even after I finished the hike, the front is hard where my toes do not feel the bumps I encounter, going downhill my middle toes got a few bumps but no black nails afterwards (this is also makes me wonder if next time I should get another half size up). The lace are comfortable to tie and don't untie constantly while you walk, traction is good, I felt I was gripping the ground with my feet which gave me much freedom climbing up and down. Arch support is great and I only started trying insoles with arch support a week before I got these shoes but they were very comfortable. They are not heavy. I felt like I was wearing shoes with heels when I walked at the beginning since the sole is thick, and boy was I grateful for that thickness, the trail I did was full of rocks and hard grass and I was in full control. The edges are not raised much so if you are into ankle support you may not like these, but they were comfortable for me and were high enough but low enough for freedom of movement. The color is the typical brown. I usually wear 2 pairs of socks and put tape on all the areas where I tend to get blisters on. After the 6 hour hike I was still able to walk like a normal person, 3 blisters only but not major bloody ones. I would buy these shoes again but may go another half size up out of curiosity of how they would fit.

I love these boots for horsey things!
This is my second purchase of these boots, unfortunately the first pair was stolen right off my porch while they were drying out. These boots definitely run a tad large, I wear an 8.5 Brooks running shoe and purchased a 7.5 in the Ariat Terrian H2O. They are plenty wide even in the B width and accommodate my high arch nicely as well as being comfortable without an added insert. My first pair held up extremely well, I ride and volunteer two days a week at the riding center and they still looked almost new after 8 months of regular wear. I regularly subjected the first pair to plenty of manure, puddles and mud without having any moisture/leaks, even when stepping in puddles that came up to and over the laces. I would not purchase these specifically for hiking. They are a little on the heavy side and the sole has a minimal tread pattern (I’m sure to limit manure pick up) which gives little traction on rockey or uneven surfaces. They are comfortable enough to wear for an easy day hike or a day full of walking in an arena and comfortable enough to keep on to run errands or go about your day. One tip I’m using for this pair is treating them with leather cream right out of the box. I live in a dry climate and we have issues with leather drying out quickly on tack and gear, so it’s one quick step to help my purchase last longer.

These boots fit perfectly. Comfortable - on my feet for 10 hours a day and feeling good. Only thing is the heels are a bit hard so I got blisters and had to put some heel pads in but now there perfect. Really tested out the waterproofing walking through long wet grass and mud but feet were still dry. Just hope they last longer than my last pair - time will tell.

I had been waiting for my size to go on sale since it's an expensive but so worth it investment and was pleased to finally be able to afford them. They are like walking on air straight out of the box, no breaking in necessary. At my age I will never have to buy another hiking boot as these are so well made. I specifically wanted these boots for a trip I am planning to Scotland next year where comfort and water proof are the main requirements. Ariat makes an outstanding product and these boots are top of the line!

I love these boots. I had my first pair for nearly 15 years. I’m hoping these are just as good. They’re so comfortable and I can horse ride in them as well as hiking.

Have only worn a handful of times since I bought these. Comfortable, mostly waterproof as expected, dried out very quickly after being fully submerged.
