Another amazing read from K. O'Neill
K. O'Neill has done it yet again! They are my favorite middle grade author. The Moth Keeper is an adorable graphic novel about Anya who is the new moth keeper. It is a very important job in her village. She has to protect the lunar moths that help the Night-Lily bloom once a year and they collect the pollen. It may be an important job but it is a lonely job. The moths are far and she must make the venture at night leading to her feeling isolated. When thoughts about living in the sun come up and Anya is obsessed with the idea. She decided to stay awake and see how it is in the day time. This decision has great affect on the Lunar Moths and the night village. I love that O'Neill always included LGBTQ+ rep in her novels, amazing art work, and has a clear meaning to the story. They take real world topics and break them down in a digestible way for a younger generation. I also really enjoy they put a blurb in the back about the inspiration for the novel and the history behind it.

2024 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's books, awarded this past summer
This was a quiet story told in graphic novel style, like a comic book, but a little more substantial. It might be a little slow for some child readers, but maybe the deliberate pacing of the story is just right for a bedtime story? Or maybe for calming down while it's raining outside and a good time for reading in the house. It's about a couple of different small scale societies, one active in the day and the other at night, coming into contact and understanding, with the magical moths tended by the Keeper being an agent or catalyst for the action. The artwork is lovely. The Mythopoeic Society celebrates the works of C.S. Lewis and Tolkien, but I think the closest among their books might be _Smith of Wooton Major_, it's not as intense as _The Hobbit_ or _The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe_. But its effects and affects are within that tradition, I think.

Beautiful Book. Wish they cared about shipping it.....
I am so excited to read this with my daughter. Unfortunately, I am going to have to go through the hassle of sending it back. It's a present. If I wanted used quality books, I would buy the used versions. Do better Amazon.

Very cool book for readers of any age although I think in particular 6-12 year olds would love this I like how it's like a comic book and tells a story even if just with pictures some pages I got this for an avid reader but sometimes it's good to just enjoy books with not so many words this book has beautiful illustrations
