How to Pass the QTS Numeracy and Literacy Skills Tests: Essential Practice for the Qualified Teacher Status Skills Tests

If you are terrible at maths, like myself, this book is certainly not for you. The explanations of simple maths only led to confuse me even more and it led to me failing my first test. The mental arithmetic mock questions they give you could be useful, if they then explained in the answers section how you get the answer, instead it gave basic working outs, so if I got the question wrong I wouldn't understand why. All in all it is pretty useless for learning maths again if you need to learn from the start. If you are confident with maths then it should be ok. I used another website which gives lots more practice questions and answers, and also YouTube videos with someone who actually explains things properly for you. I would stay away from this book if you do need proper help. I passed second time when I didn't even use the books useless information. On the other hand, The English section offers you useful information, gives you hundreds of spellings which you should know, and proper help with all the sections needed in order to pass. The English section is much better than the Maths section, so if you are good at maths and need more help with English then this is perfect, if you need help with both section or just maths stay well away from the book.

This book is very good. However, after practicing the little tests in the book, I thought I was doing really well. Then I went on line to practice the QTS Practice tests and found that I really needed to up my skills in maths. I would recommend you look at the QTS on line answer in the 18 seconds you get(after question s read to you) then see what you need. I use the book to brush up on my skills but I really must say the online QTS practice tests really are different than using a book to revise. I would recommend the book for back and support.

When the first paragraph of the introduction contains factual errors 5 years out of date, you should know to put the book down. For a so called guide for people worried and trying to practise for career changing exams the author should be getting the information correct. You shouldn’t be having to check your answers against answers which are wrongly listed as it obviously could make people nervous of this exam worry further.

Overall, this product is consice, clear and informative. The layout of the book is particularly effective, providing good examples and a large range of practice questions, however, I did find some of the maths methods confusing and would love to see a few more step-by-step examples in the maths section as there is quite jump into the questions, it would also be helpful if in the answer section, the methods were shown. In short, a very helpful aid to the practical skills test

The explanations are not clear enough. It has loads of mistakes and it is very confusing in the numeracy part. Don't buy it!
