![Thomas And The Magic Railroad [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51bhegV6x0L.jpg)

Thomas the Tank Engine's first big-screen outing. When Diesel 10 and his dastardly sidekicks Splatter and Dodge begin causing trouble in Sodor, the magical realm inhabited by Thomas and friends, the place soon begins to lose its sparkle. Not even Mr Conductor (Alec Baldwin), the man with the magic dust, seems to be able to help. But when Thomas discovers the the magic railroad, the line which connects the human world with the world of the talking trains, and when a young girl named Lily (Mara Wilson) resolves to help, it seems there might be hope after all. Review: A Modern Classic - A favorite film of mine as a child, is now my son's favorite as well. This 85 min magical film blurs the line between fantasy and reality, transporting you to the Island of Sodor. With a friendly, reliable, and really useful cast, beautiful soundtrack, and mystery to solve- this movie has become a family favorite for a new generation. Review: SUPER-NICE MOVIE!!! Better than a lot of the Disney films! - I absolutely LOVED this movie! I am 43, yet I found it exciting and entertaining, and occasionally quite emotionally touching, too --- it brought tears to my eyes over and over, to see how dedicated and kindly self-sacrificing the hero characters were. I also got a BIG kick out of the many very clever lines throughout the movie... whoever thought these jokes up, they surely had a great imagination and sense of humor! Just one example of the many funny lines that comes to mind: the two smaller diesels are upbraiding the big bully, Diesel-10, for letting Mr. Conductor escape, and D-10 doesn't want to admit that Mr. Conductor escaped by cutting D-10's hydraulic hose, so D-10 pretends that he'd actually intended to let Mr. Conductor escape. The other two diesels don't believe him, of course (it takes one to know one!), so they jeer back: "Liar, liar!" "Pants on fire!" "Well, does he even WEAR pants?" "Yeah --- TRAINING pants!" (See the double joke there? They're calling D-10 a baby because babies wear training pants, and he's a TRAIN, too!)

I am at a loss for words
I don't know what to say as this film is an enigma. Alec baldwin, Peter fonda, And gold dust oh my. Things just happen in this movie and the cast just reacts to it. The set in the world of sodor are like a model train. so do the conductor and junior... who even was the guy who played junior? It doesn't matter because things happen either way too fast or way too slow and then the pacing just shifts drastically. I was eight years old when this film came out and I only watched 20 years later with my nephew as I felt it would most likely be an experience that will either haunt me or live with me forever. The plot appears linear, but at times it seems nonsensical when they put in comical scenes such as The conductor starts playing with a ball and a bat, the is no real reason for this scene to happen. For instance when Mara Wilson arrives in the real world with thomas, he falls down a mountain and just poofs into another reality, why this happens is never explained, other than it was windy. The actors like Baldwin and Fonda, did they have a mortgage to pay off or something. at time alec baldwin is giving a sincere performance as if he signed up without really knowing what he got himself into and was like "Well I will do my best" which shows However, Fonda looks like he hated every minute of it. the film is competently shot and the train shots in both sodor and the real world are great, What I am trying to say is rent the movie, and if you train loving nephew has good time, there is no real harm. It really has to be seen to be believed. I enjoyed more than I thought, this has like audience participation potential.

Cutest movie
It was a Christmas present for my son,he has autism and one of his favorite things is Thomas, when I found this I knew he would like it. Based off the books its a live action and computer animation its fun for older kids little one would like the other versions better.

Thomas did good but they made a lot of mistakes
I thought this movie was pretty good and my sister dubbed it Thomas Square. I still don't know why but I can sit through this one a few times without getting bored. I thought they made a few mistakes in it though. First of all none of the engines have drivers. I know none of the drivers in the story ever had names besides Edward's driver being called Charlie once but Mr Conductor could've called them Sir or Driver or not really address them at all. Second I thought Edward should've been in it. Edward was one of the oringinal engines from the first tape and he could've had a small part. Next I thought it was weird how Thomas would leave Annie and Clarabel in the middle of the line where another engine could run into them. I thought it was neat how each engine had their own individual voices. The acting was good and I was suprised they were able to find the old actors from Shining Time Station. This movie was good and little kids love it.

Wonderful Classic
We have been looking for this video for a while. It came just in time to make my Thomas aficionado happy for Christmas. Thanks Santa, lol! It included a personal touch with a note from the seller, that stated they hoped we enjoyed the video. My son has watched it at least once a week. This is one of the Thomas series that even my daughter enjoys!

"I Always Knew Thomas was real....."
How can a badly edited, tinnily written movie with the zombie-acting of Peter Fonda be worth 5 stars? Because my boys, 7, 5, and 2 yrs old, love it. And don't just love it, but are mesmerized. The live action-collaboration with the old model railroad sets is adorable. The 7 yr old, who had long ago left behind Thomas for Ninjago and the Clone Wars, sat down with his middlest and littlest brother and hugged them as they watched. Then he said under his breath "I Always Knew Thomas was real....." The 5 and 2 have never doubted. This live-action Thomas movie lets them Believe in the magic in a delightful way. And the tenth or so time I let them watch, I sat down with them and watched too. It isn't half bad, and it is even funny. Every time it seems too harrowing, it backs off just a bit and is safe again for preschoolers. They will love it.

My two year old is a live wire. He runs around, knocks things over, causes chaos (as two year olds do) until I put this on. From the opening sequence til end of the credits he will sit transfixed, totally absorbed in the film. I admit, he didn't like it the first time he saw it - I don't think he could cope with "real people" being with Thomas, however after taking him out to the Days out With Thomas where he saw the "real" Thomas, that was it - he has been watching it constantly since. I've already worn out 3 VHS tapes of this movie and have now sucummbed to the DVD. To all the parents who say they don't like it, I don't believe you. Like me you will have watched it when the kids have gone to bed, cheered Thomas, willed Diesel 10 to fall at the end of the chase sequence and hoped the kids don't wake up before you finish watching it. After all, the magic in all of us is there....isn't it?
