This is another pottery book that I absolutely adore. All of the projects are great for beginners and advanced alike. The pictures are incredibly helpful and aid in each of the projects.Once again, I look forward to starting a project from this book. If you're just starting out in pottery, this is a must-have.

AMAZING
I am in love with the book. I am a teacher of ceramics and started to learn ceramics myself about 8 years ago, but this book is so full of wonderful detailed information that I read a little every day. I show it to my students so they can see the huge variety of choices they have when it comes to designing and making a piece of ceramic work.

Can I rate this with more than 5 stars?
Just received the book today - LOVE IT!! I pre-ordered the book 4 months ago based on the quality of Jacqui's previous books, as well as the reputation of the publisher, 'Barron Books'. A match of 2 5-star creators, in my opinion. Book is well thought out with wonderful pictures. Jacqui covers a wide variety of topics and the book should appeal to potters of every level, whether you handbuild or throw. I cannot wait to try out some of her ideas. Great info regarding decor and handles and lids. Thanks Jacqui, for putting all this info in one book - easy on the eyes and encouragement for those creative juices! Now it's time to get to work!

One of the things I like most is they focus on form
I’m already a potter with several years experience, and I found this book to be a helpful resource. One of the things I like most is they focus on form. Sometimes decoration can over shadow a very simple but beautiful form and this book shows the forms in the bisqueware state. I also like that they explore the different types of vessels as wheel thrown, slab built and coil built. At this wonderful price you really shouldn’t pass up this resource.

Useful for hobbyists
Enjoyable to read and helpful, as each item class (eg stacking plates) is covered in a few different hand manufacturing methods: on the wheel, slab cut, coiled. Useful for hobbyists and those who are thinking of starting a pottery business at home.

Beautiful Book, Well Written and Informative
Bought for Christmas for my boyfriend for Christmas. Had to return it because he already had a similar book, but it was a very nice book and beautifully done.

Valuable resource
Wonderful book with organized sections in different methods of construction. I would have like to have seen more coverage on hand built techniques and how to design templates. Worthy investment. Kudos to the author.

Fantastic pottery book--wheel and handbuilding ideas and techniques
This is a fabulous book--there are lots of really helpful tips (how much clay to throw a 6" or 10" bowl?), lots of design considerations (what kind of cup do you love--are you making a vessel to contain or to delivery?), lots of examples of different types of handles, types of cups/pots/pitchers/trays/plates/teapots... you can throw vs coil build vs using slab building... I love how this book is a blend of technical instruction, practical considerations and artistic inspiration--great for beginners and more advanced potters. Love it.

Best book available for beginning potters
This book is indispensable for anyone who wants to learn how to make beautiful and useful pottery. It doesn’t treat handbuilding as a poor relation to wheel-throwing. Instead, the book provides a wealth of practical guidance to everyone who works with clay or wants to give it a try — whether you’re comfortable with the wheel or, like me, you prefer the freedom of slabbing and coiling. Making and using your own tableware is a great experience, and this book makes it possible for everyone to succeed.
