This is effective
I have used melatonin for years. I would always wake in the middle of the night, usually after 4 hours, and have trouble getting back to sleep. (I took half of a 5 mg tablet or dissolving lozenge.) The combination of extended release, which actually works, and a tiny, close to physiologic dose, appears special. I was skeptical of the tiny dose but perhaps this contributes to not experiencing the “this is morning” effect when I do wake in the night. And I do still frequently wake, but with this preparation I go back to sleep easily. For me, the effectiveness of this preparation is qualitatively different.

Great for light sleepers!
I'm a very light sleeper and I often wake up. Since I've started using this I sleep so much deeper and I wake up feeling really refreshed. I'm also happy it's such a small amount of melatonin content because I don't wake up groggy. Super effective for getting a good night's rest. The pills are small and easy to swallow, something in the coating makes them go down very easy. Great value overall

Finally—A Melatonin That Doesn’t Knock Me Out With Grogginess, But Keeps Me Asleep!
I’ve tried just about every kind of melatonin over the years—fast dissolve, gummies, sprays, even teas—and while most helped me *fall* asleep, none could help me *stay* asleep. I’d wake up at 3 a.m. staring at the ceiling, wide awake, wishing I’d never taken anything at all. Then I found this 6-hour time-release melatonin from Life Extension, and it’s honestly been a quiet miracle in my nightly routine. The first night, I noticed the difference. I didn’t feel that “melatonin hangover” or grogginess that some formulas give you. Instead, it felt like my body just… naturally drifted off and stayed there. The best part? When I woke up in the morning, it wasn’t with that heavy, foggy feeling—just calm, rested energy. Here’s what really impressed me: it eases you into sleep gently and then *keeps you there*, thanks to the time-release formula. It’s like having a quiet sleep assistant working in the background all night, releasing just enough melatonin to keep your brain from hitting that “wake up too early” button. I take one about 30 minutes before bed, do my usual wind-down routine, and by the time I hit the pillow, my mind is calm and my body feels ready. I’ve had some of the best, most consistent sleep of my adult life using this—especially after struggling with pain and restless nights post-surgery. If you’re tired of products that work for an hour and then leave you tossing and turning at 2 a.m., this is the one to try. It doesn’t feel like a pill—it feels like finally remembering what real sleep is supposed to be like.

It works!
I've been taking 150 MG of Trazodone at bedtime and this increases my nights sleep from about four hours to about seven. Then I started taking two Life Extension Time Released Melatonin 300 mcg tablets 45 minutes before the Trazodone and this got me back to my normal eight hours. It works because I suffer from early morning awakenings and the time release makes the melatonin kick in when I need it in the early morning. I think it works best on an empty stomach. As of yet no side effects however I wonder about possible long term use effects. Update: I recently had heart palpitations and pain in the mid-left side of my torso. I researched the effects of melatonin and found out it has a role in vasodilation. Based on what I could understand from the research papers one of its effects is that it constricts blood flow to the renal system. Though I could be jumping to the wrong conclusion, I've stopped taking melatonin in case the pain in my side was related to melatonin's effect on blood flow to the kidneys.

Less is More!
Sometimes less is more, and that seems to be the case with Melatonin. Apparently you can overload your body with too much Melatonin, leading to poor sleep results. My wife and I have both had good results with this dosing over a period of a couple of months.

Excellent, But With It Was 8 Hour Time Release
The best sleep aid I've found, after trying a few different things. Long before I started having sleep problems recently, I've used the Tempur-Pedic sleep eye mask for 12 years, to block out all light when I sleep (highly recommend to add to your sleep regimen). I always wanted to make sure my sleep was the highest quality, with no light. So I was kind of surprised when I suddenly began having insomnia about 6 months ago - waking once or twice in the night, then waking at 4 a.m. "ready for the day." I'm a fan of supplements, but I've tried enough of them through the years to know I usually can't handle something strong. And of course I didn't want anything that could be addictive, because this was happening every single night, not just an "occasional" sleepless night. So I started with gentle herbal supplements and teas like chamomile, lavender, passion flower, and lemon balm. No valerian sleep aids for me, because I have a paradoxical reaction to it (instead of calming me, it gives me the opposite - anxiety and racing heartbeat). The herbs helped me relax but didn't help me sleep. I was hesitant to try melatonin because it's a hormone, and I've had my hormones messed up before, but I was desperate for sleep. I suspected the 3 mg and 5 mg doses on the market would be way too much. I started with a 1.5 mg supplement, which worked but I woke up groggy and nauseous. Too much. I tried a few lower dose options (not time released like this one), which helped me fall asleep and eliminated the first night wakings, but I still woke up at 4 a.m. on the dot and couldn't go back to sleep. Clearly I needed the melatonin to stay in my system longer, so it occurred to me to look for a time released option (which, oddly, didn't come up in my searches for melatonin until I searched specifically for time released). This looked like a good option. 1 tablet worked pretty well at keeping me asleep until about 5 a.m., which was an improvement, but it took longer for me to fall asleep in the first place because the small dose is distributed so slowly. 2 tablets are PERFECT for me at 600 mcg (equivalent to 0.6 mg, just over half a milligram, distributed evenly throughout the night). I had the most glorious night of sleep I've had in 6 months. I like this Life Extension one because it's such a tiny dose, I don't have to cut it and I was able to double up easily, without going over 1 mg. If you needed 3 tablets, it would still be less than 1 mg. With such a small dose, you can make these fine-tune adjustments. Hormones are very powerful and delicate like that. There's no reason to go overboard with them. I definitely recommend this. UPDATE: I do wish this was an 8 hour time release instead of 6. I sleep great through the 6 hours, but I'm wide awake as soon as it wears off. All the current research says adults need 8 hours of sleep for optimal health. I get by, but I NEED another two hours of sleep each night.
