Tesla Model X and S have a constant 12V power in the ODB2 port and is not used for any other purpose. This adapter converts the ODB2 12V power to USB 5V if you need a constant power source even when the vehicle is parked. I use this to power a hotspot for my dash cam. I could use the internal hotspot battery, but don't want the risk of overheating the hotspot battery since the internal temps of the car can exceed 110 deg F. The label on the battery clearly states "don't use when temp exceeds 113 deg F. My hot spot works without a battery installed so this was the perfect solution. For a Tesla there is no concern of depleting the 12V battery since it is constantly topped off by the main 400V battery as all electronics are run off the same 12V battery. Hence the added power draw of a hot spot and dash cam are negligible. If you have a gas powered car, this device auto shuts off at 11.5V so that the battery does not drain completely.Tesla has announced a "camping mode" coming in a future firmware update which will enable one or more 12V "cigarette lighter" sockets to remain constantly on. Until then, this is the easiest option to install. The ODB2 port is right next to the driver side wheel well so the wires are very easy to hide behind the carpeting. Literally takes 5 min to install and hide all the wires.

Been using these to power my dashcams 24/7. Works great in my Tesla since the 12v system is always charged/maintaned from the main battery. The gas vehicle's, I have to start the vehicle at least once a week or attach a trickle charger if I don't run it for extended periods.

Works great! Please note that the USB port is different that what I thought, my fault, and would not fit my GOLUK T3 dash cam. However, I cut the end of and soldered a new end on and it words great. The cable is also very long too.

This is a great product before I saw this I was going to try and hunt down and tap into a 12-volt wire Somewhere in My Car which isn't always the safest or smartest thing to do so simple solution get this thing Plug & Play no tools needed. All I can say is thank you people with a lot of time on your hands that invent stuff like this that saves me time hassle possibly blown fuses and gives me exactly what I need.Oh and by the way I use this to plug in my echo dot into my car connected to car WiFi and Car Bluetooth works perfect. :-) alexa in my car
