Fun, cute game that combines luck and strategy
I received this game specifically to write a review. That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(Please see the enclosed pictures.)Summary: Forest Run is a game for 2-4 players, ages 7+, from Tortue Game company. A typical game lasts 30-45 minutes. Each of the players is trying to be the first to reach the final tile.On your turn, you can either pick a game card from the draw pile or you may choose a spell in your hand and cast the spell.Game cards will let you move your marker a number of squares forward or move an opponents marker a number of squares back. Most of the cards give you the option to choose the effect. The board is full of special effect tiles such as friend tiles that let you move forward additional spaces, monster tiles that send you back spaces, and even a landmine that sends you back to the beginning. As soon as your marker lands on the space, the effect occurs. For example, if one of the players moves your marker back to the bomb then you would have to move your marker back to start. Oh no!The good news is that you can cast spells on your turn to either enhance effects or protect you from them. For example, the Cage spell negates the monsters, and the Diffuser negates the bomb while the Magic spell lets you move forward. Some squares allow you to collect resources or full-blown spell cards. At the end of your turn, if you have the needed materials, you can create a spell.Again, you win by getting your marker to the end first. On to the Dr Games’ Criteria …GO/NO GO Criterion• Complexity: (GO) It is a simple game, but there is some strategy in determining which spaces to land on to and whether to use your game cards to move other players back or move your own marker forward.• Balanced: (GO ) The mechanics are completely balanced.• Chance (GO) There is a good balance of chance and skill in the game. The game cards are random, but determining which player to use them on is entirely skill. (There are a few cards that just move you forward, in which case, you might get a positive or negative random effect, but this is a rare case.)• Clarity: (GO) The rules are completely clear. The actual spell effects are only written on the cards and are not in the rules, but that is fine. Just letting you know.• Reasonable Time: (GO) You will be able to play an entire game in 30-45 minutes.Bonus Criteria• Social: The game is cute, and the topic is fun. There are no rules for socializing or negotiation, but it definitely occurred in our games as players tried to make agreements with other players not to send their marker to the bear or the bomb.• Unique/Interesting Mechanics: It is a fun combination of effects and mechanics that you have seen in other games, but wrapped in a cute, kid-friendly way.• Informed: Not for this game.• Rewards Throughout: Actually, not in this game. You can get hit with a monster tile, a bomb, or a string of "move backs" from your fellow players. That is why the game can take 45 minutes. All in all, this is a lovely game for kids and mixed gaming groups.I highly recommend it.

Really fun game
So, between us 3 adults who played it, we actually managed to drag the game out for about 2 and a half hours. 1 won in 2 hours. For second place was another 30 minutes back and forthGranted may have been between watching a movie and the game that slowed it down a bitGame is supposed to take about 30-45 min. But I also know that that's an estimate, so don't get mad if you manage shorter or longer games. I play hard, so oh yeah, I'll drag a player back to the beginning over and over to win. And oh yeah, we did that a bitReally good full game here. I like this company, and these companies making games like these. I think especially for kids they need to play more of these. They are major fun, get their brains going, and challenges them. And its also major fun for adults, as shown by me and my siblings who were playing this. For those wondering on the gameplay to see if they like it, I'll give a brief summary:You play on a board with spaces numbered 1 through 100 (100 being you win). Like the game Sorry you pick up cards to move, except instead of set movements per number card in Sorry, each card is different and has mostly move yourself or your opponent cards, or move only yourself, move only your opponent, or miss turn (there's only two in the whole game)You pick up items called fruit, fire, or wood, from landing on spaces with them on them. Then you can use those resources to craft potions/spells. These spells allow you to either help you move faster, attack your opponents, or defend yourself. It's a mix of Candyland and Sorry, but better detailed.I'll note, the rules don't say the last space you have to get exactly that many +movement to land on, but I thought I'd keep that in my game as a rule from previous games that you have to. It's up to you if you want that as a rule. You got spaces that send you back spaces, and friend spaces that send you forward more. Then there are bombs that plummet you back to the beginning. So you'll always have a chance to bring your opponent back and you forward 😉Majorly fun game, highly recommend.I dont have the first Tortue game, I honestly want to check it out now thanks to this : )
