Effective and harmless mouse trap that doesn't make me feel like a murderer!
I ordered these less than 24 hours ago, got same day delivery, and then was a little put off by the second line in the directions tell me that patience is key (I am not patient!) because these are live, nimble creatures. Lo and behold, as soon as I turned the lights out to go to bed, my adorable little house mouse went right in for the peanut butter and got trapped inside (safely, with no harm to the creature)! I included this photo because some of the other reviews on here are a bit wacky, so allow me to share an alternative perspective.1. On the "torture chamber" bit about tails getting caught in the door: I'm fortunate that my house mouse is tiny and suffered no injuries whatsoever. That said, your alternatives are (1) death trap, (2) glue trap, which I understand to be torture traps, as it's often impossible to unstick the mouse without breaking their feet, essentially leaving them for dead if you don't kill them in the act of ripping them from the glue (not to mention, that is way more contact with the mouse than I am up for), or (3) accept that you coexist with a family of mice sharing your food and home. Those reviews are dramatic as heck, and I was willing to accept the possibility that I may have had a mouse with a broken tail being freed into the woods instead of a dead or tortured mouse to deal with and blood on my hands.2. On the trap being too difficult to see when you've caught a mouse, leading to suffering mice being stuck inside for too long: Even if your vision is so bad that you can't clearly see this [totally adorable] house mouse through the tinted blue trap here... you've laid out a mouse trap! How on earth are you *not* checking it regularly to see if you've caught a mouse?? Get yourself together and don't leave mouse traps around your house unchecked that may have trapped mice inside!3. On them being ineffective: All I can speak to is my experience, and I purchased the traps shortly after noon, had them delivered by 5, and had a mouse trapped inside by midnight. Hot damn is that effective in my book!I'm a highly sensitive animal lover, so I am very grateful to this manufacturer for providing me with an effective option that will not give me nightmares for the foreseeable future! Unless they're nightmares about "the one that got away"... the sweet little house mouse that I sent running off into the forest when I maybe should have instead provided it with a cage to continue living with me in a controlled fashion.

Great & Humane Traps
A few weeks ago I saw evidence of mice in the house so I knew I needed to order some traps to remedy the problem. I didn't want to be dealing with mice corpses or finding injured, half-dead mice in traps, so I ordered two of these "catch and release" traps. After catching three mice in two days, I ordered four more traps to set them up on all three levels of the house. Though I would have preferred to not have mice, I am very happy with the results and am hoping to have all these mice gone within a couple of days. These traps are extremely easy to set up, easy to clean, reusable, humane, and most importantly, effective. I would highly recommend them to anyone having an issue with mice in the house.*Note: Information located on the internet tells me to release the mice no less than two miles away from the house or they will possibly return. I pass a local park on the way to work and release them there. Easy peasy.

MOUSE TORTURE CHAMBER. Also 2 out of 4 defective, all 4 hard to open
These things don't work right, as described below. I had to throw out 2 of the 4 because they were defective, and now I've discovered something even worse about them: Their doors catch the trapped mouse by the tail. Last night I put out my remaining 2 traps, and soon I heard sounds of struggle. Found a mouse in one with most of its tail trapped in the door. I was literally hanging in the air, because the trap's door had caught it by the base of the tail. I quickly took it outside and released it. This morning, I found another mouse in the trap who had had the last inch of its tail cut off by this cruel trap when it snapped off -- the little bit of tail was still in the door. It was pitiful. I think the maker put too strong a spring on the door, so it snaps shut with too much force. Whoever made things -- I hope an angry dog bites a chunk out of his butt! And on top of that, these things are hard to use, and 2 of them were so defective they were unusable.Had bought some similar mousetraps before, by maker Harris, and those worked fine. They were easy to use, and did not catch mice by the tail. These, by maker lllteri, looked just the same, so figured they were -- but NO. I bought 4. Two of them had something wrong with the little plastic tab that's on the end of the door at the mouse end of the trap. That door opens downward and is held open by the plastic tab on its end that tucks under another plastic bit inside the trap. The little "door" then forms a ramp that the mouse walks up. When the mouse reaches the top of the ramp his weight moves the plastic tab enough that it comes free from the thing holding it, and the door snaps shut behind the mouse. However, 2 out of 4 of these traps had tabs that were too short. One tab was so short that it simply did not reach the thing it's supposed to tuck behind, so it was impossible to I threw it away. Another one had a tab that just barely reaches. Sometimes this tab came loose just from the tiny jarring it gets when I set it downs. That leaves 2 traps out out of 4 whose mouse doors work properly. BUT all 4 of these traps had another problem: It is fairly hard to slide upen the end where you put in the bait. On the other brand the bait compartment slid out very easily -- you didn't even have to push it, you could turn the trap upside down and it would fall off. On these traps they stick. If you look at the illustration in the directions for use, you'll see 2 thumbs pressing firmly inward and upward on the bait holder, and that really is what you have to do. When you're loading in the bait, this is merely a nuisance. But when you've freeing a mouse that got caught in them, it's a real problem. The way you let the mouse out is to pull off the bait compartment, leaving that whole end open. If to pull open the bait door you have to face that end towards you and push hard with both hands, that means that when you free the mouse the trap is right in front of your face. I'm softhearted, and that's why I use these humane traps, but I do not want a freed mouse jumping out right onto my face!In short, this brand of trap seems like a badly made copy of the ones that work. Get another brand.I later found that other brands do the same thing -- catch the mouse's tail in the door. I think what causes these tail captures is that the door snaps shut too hard and fast after the mouse enters. The mouse isn't able to pull its tail free. I have modified my trap in a way that will spare the tails. It's possible that it will also allow the mouse to escape the trap, but I doubt it. My modification leaves the door a tiny bit open, and they might be able to grab the edge and pull it open fully -- but I don't think they have the intelligence or strength to do it. Here's how you make this trap humane. Get some tape -- I used duck tape. Cut a strip about 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches long, and roll it up into a little roll. Then take another strip of tape and use that to stick the roll in place on the inner roof of the trap right inside the door. This will keep the trap from closing fully and trapping the mouse's tail. I've included a photo of how it's done.

Not a completed design
I like the idea of these traps, but they are poorly made. It's hard to keep the latch door open. They have the tendency to snap shut when nothing is near them. Over the week I had them, they did catch 4 mice but the last one chewed off the tiny tab that holds the door open so it's impossible to use that one again. The design needs to be improved. It's too bad that couldn't have been done before going to market.ETA 05-31-22: I have twice heard from the seller. They offered me a $20 Amazon gift card to remove this feedback. I refused, and demanded that they cease contacting me.

"If You Build a Better Mousetrap, the World Will Beat a Path Your Door...."
...and so they did! I bought a set of four of these traps after having used a large metal livetrap for years. Almost immediately, I caught two mice - and in the ensuing weeks, I've caught an astonishing (and also alarming) 12 MORE. We had only seen one mouse in the house, and thought that's all we had after our alert cat had caught it. But I wanted to be sure there were no more - and bought these traps to find out.As I noted - we were truly stunned to find out that these little pests were in the house, and that there were so many getting in.This trap is amazing. Everything about it is right on the money: the design, the separate bait section that's easy to remove, clean and replenish - the perfect sensitivity of the trigger - as noted, I'm amazed at how efficient this trap is, and how the trap has shown us how large a mouse problem we have. Which - this trap: is SOLVING for us.One thing - you MUST release them promptly and (read carefully) at least two miles away from your home. Yup - at least two miles away. Because the consensus of research has shown that they can find their way back to your house from that far away. Seriously.Bottom line: just fantastic traps. We've used them for over a month now and they've held up perfectly through repeated trappings. It's important to remember that these are for SMALL rodents. Mice: perfect. Rats? I don't think so - and especially of you have the large Manhattan-sized critters. But for us, for mice - this is an amazing item and we're thoroughly impressed!
