Put a bird on it!
I bought this pattern book on a whim thinking I'd at least get one good project from it and was pleasantly surprised. At first glance it seems a bit much to have a whole book based on bird knitting patterns but the author really did a great job. The majority of patterns are subtle and lovely and anyone would like to wear them (whether you're a bird lover or not). Yes there are a few that are a bit quirky but the majority are quite classic, striking and lovely. There are patterns for neckwarmers, hats, mittens, scarves, pillows. And they run the gambit on difficulty. The author uses interesting and lovely yarn choices that really showcase her pieces potential.I've knit 3 of the pieces so far and given them as gifts and they have been getting a lot of attention. The patterns are straight forward, easy to follow and well written. The photographs are excellent and the tips and tutorials are very helpful along the way. There is definitely something for everyone in this book, projects for all ages and skill levels. It's well worth a look and the price.

Fun to knit projects
I originally bought this book because I wanted to knit the peacock Tam. I am currently knitting the third item from this book. My daughter pleaded with me to make the Snowy Owl Capelet for Christmas .

Ordinary
I was disappointed with this book. I usually check knitting books out from the library to see the patterns before I invest in a purchase because so many sound awesome yet disappoint when I finally see them. It is too bad the Amazon 'look inside' feature doesn't allow a more complete idea of the patterns in the book but the reviews were really positive and I took the chance. This book has only a couple of patterns I would (maybe) consider knitting but it was bought on a gift card so I will keep it. I am not a fan of cowls, cup cozies, wrist warmers, pillows, weird artsy shawls or giant slouchy tams. Many of the patterns are barely attributable to bird themes except as an artist concept. Disappointing.

The Birds......
If you don't like birds, this isn't for you. But if you do or knit for someone who does, this is great. There is a fun range of projects with something for every skill level. I bought the book for the bird cowl pattern and love it. Knit it as a gift and the recipient was thrilled. Win-win. Can't wait to knit another in a different color combination.

Great, unusual petterns.
Wonderful accurate patterns. I was looking for a new project and am knitting these items for fun and to use at our Audubon chapter meetings for a fund raiser. I use the patterns as is, or change the item: for example, I am making a "murmurations" hat and a "snowy owl" cowl. The "birds on wires" cowl turned out great!

Great book
This book has great projects. Very clear instructions and get helpful tips. In fact I am knitting book junky and this book is the best book I have ever seen for pictures and instructions, you will actually learn something. I made "birds on a wire cowl" and it came out great no problems. I am planning on making a couple of other things from the book, which says a lot about a knitting book if you make more than one project.

Unique
Projects in this book all have an avian theme. They range from the sophisticated hat on the cover to a few that would take more nerve than I've got to wear in public. All very interesting and uniquely designed.

Hats!
Next year, I have decided, I will be making hats - these ones will be the easy ones, as I know how to knit; I also want to learn how to make felt, then make felt hats. So, 2014 - the year of the hat!
