Works great, but it is an enabler.
I bought this item as a Christmas gift for my parents, who love to sit outside, but typically do not do so in the late fall/winter time because it gets too cold. They used the gift very soon after I gave it to them. They have taken it out on the pontoon boat and kept the whole boat warm while fishing, but mostly they just use it out on the patio at night. My sister lives next door to my parents, and reports that they used it almost every cool/cold night to sit outside. She has also let me know that sometimes they drink too much wine, and they sit out there under the warm glow of the heater and serenade the night with music they grew up listening to. She is vowing to get revenge on me for this, as their state of inebriation is such that they are apparently singing loud enough to be heard through her closed windows. Aside from the bad juju being sent my way, it's a great product, especially on a good sale.

is sturdy if put together properly and looks great
This patio heater is well worth the price. Came packaged very well, is sturdy if put together properly and looks great. As many reviews indicate the instructions have some problems put if constructed correctly you will have no problems. Make sure to use some real wrenches / sockets to put it together. They supply a "toy"wrench but you will not be able to fully tighten the bolts using it.Here are corrections to the instructions.Step 1. You don't need to remove the 4 screws. Just remove the center cap and fill with sand. Recommend you purchase the fine sand used between pavers. Home Depot sells it. Its Paverstone Sand/mix. Its fine and dry so easy to pour in hole.Step 3. Do NOT tighten the 3 base bolts as suggested until completing step 4. Leave finger tight.Step 4. After completing this step as outlined in the instructions, than go back and tighten the base bolts in step 3.Step 8. The instructions say " remove the four small bolts and loch washers from the head assembly." This is incorrect. The four bolts and lock washers are together in the shrink pak. Also it should say to use a washer with all four head bolts as well. St you want to add a washer from shrink pak to each of the 4 bolts. So each will have a bolt, followed by a lock washer, followed by a regular washer.Step 8.5. Missing in instructions is at this point you thread the gas hose thru the lower pipe and screw the two pipes together at this time.Step 11.5. Missing is the step to connect the gas regulator valve to the gas hose. Make sure you use two wrenches and that you tighten the hose bolt tightly to the regular. Do not rely on using the play wrench that comes with the shrink pak.Lastly the lighting instructions are not correct. it says in the instructions to turn the dial between high and low, then to press ignition. This will not work. You need to turn the dial half way between the OFF and HIGH markers. In this position you can press the black dial all the way in. While holding it all the way in press the ignition button once or twice at same time. Flame will start. Hold the black dial in for 20 to 30 seconds to heat the thermo coupler which is required to keep it running on its own. After 20 to 30 seconds release the black dial and now turn it to the desired temp between HIGH and LOW.

and it now puts out at least 10x more heat on me where before it was almost useless in sub-zero temperatures
As some other reviewers mentioned, this thing is really tall - way too tall for my short self (5' 8"). I cut 12" off the upper steel support post, re-drilled holes, and it now puts out at least 10x more heat on me where before it was almost useless in sub-zero temperatures. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing this, it's almost required. I understand that it's tall for tall people to be able to use, but they should sell a short person version!Turns on almost instantly in sub-zero temperatures. Appears to be of good quality for the price and is solid. Installation is easy and common sense, there are only like 10 parts, I have no idea why people are complaining about this.

the blue film peeled off like butter. Hope this saves someone else the frustration
Delivered as described, works as described. One word of caution- the blue protective film on the heat reflector is damn impossible to peel off if the metal is cold. I didn't realize this and wanted to bash my fists into a wall due to frustration. Once I brought the heat shield inside and used a hair dryer on it, the blue film peeled off like butter. Hope this saves someone else the frustration.

Melting of top of unit occurs when used on high
We bought the item. After five minutes of bing on, fire came through the grating and melted the rim. We returned the unit and the sent a new one. The same happened with the second unit. When it happened it was on high. We experimented and it only happened when it was on high but functioned normalled when on low. Buyer beware!!!!

Paint began to melt and peel due to heat
Item was easy to set up but the problems began once I turned it on. The heating element in this unit was WAY too low and began to melt/burn off the paint. I shut the whole thing off before things go worse but I certainly will not turn this on again for fear of what else may happen. I'd send it back but I had already recycled the box before actually testing the unit. I've seen this issue reported by other people so it seems some units must have this issue while others must not (it's sort of hard to ignore this problem if you have it).

LOVE this Heater!
Amazing Heater! Could suntan under it lol..... it is VERY tall (it's commercial height) so I did what another customer did and cut the top PIPE down by 9 inches so it could be used between two outside rockers. His review is on Amazon. The cutting of the PIPE was easy with a metal hacksaw and a cheap mitrebox, drilling the holes was harder (used a drill press). If anyone else does this make sure to make the new holes a little bit oblong like the original holes because it allows for adjustment. I am a 59 year old grandmother and I put it together by myself.

Would recommend
Just recieved this today and put it together myself in an hour ( at most ) I did need my mom ( who is 75 ) to hold things/ pass me things but really it went together REALLY easily just followed the directions exactly. It is big so be prepared for the height...its perfect on my deck. It could throw a bit more heat HOWEVER its certainly toasty enough that I have enjoyed my deck all evening and I would NOT have without it! Cant speak to the durability of it, as I just got it but other than that, really pleased! Would buy again

Works great, an efficient heater
We ordered two of these while they were available. They were fairly easy to assemble - a couple more f the pieces were under all the styrofoam, so make sure to empty the entire box.We ordered Havana bronze as I'm not a fan of how stainless steel looks when it gets wet or dirty. The Havana bronze looks awesome! I would say it is more of a satin black finish. We just used them and had two heaters in a 13x13-ft area on a day that was around 6-8° c. We had them running on low to medium low, and were extremely comfortable. (This included one person who is a self-declared 'always cold' person.)Very happy with the purchase.

Easy to Assemble
I have assembled many items over the years and some had confusing and frustrating instructions. The assembly of this tall propane heater was very easy. The instructions were straightforward and all the fasteners were nicely labeled and coordinated with the instructions. They even included a wrench! The packaging was good and there was no scratches or dents. After an unhurried assembly time of less than an hour, I bled the air out of heater in about 3 minutes of holding in the control knob, and the heater fired up right away on the “high flame” position that was opposite to my old heater. I recognized that the high heat position enabled the thermal couple to quickly heat up thereby allowing me to release the control knob after only a few seconds instead of a minute or more. Nice improvement!

Very poorly built, stands crooked and missing pieces...
This looks good coming out of the box, but thats about it. I got it all assembled in about an hour. The finished product looks terrible because neither of the main joints where big pieces go together comes together straight. It looks like the leaning tower of pisa. All in all, it is pretty disappointing. I even tried disassembling and reassembling but it seems like the holes are machined crooked. On top of that, it was was missing four nuts...critical ones: to attach the body to the base. These are the only four nuts not included in the pack - they are supposed to be already installed into the base. My local hardware store didn't carry metric nuts, so I had to drive to Home Depot. All that kind of defeats the point of getting it delivered. I could have picked one up at HD.It looks so bad, I would return it, but that seems like too much of a hassle.
