Martial arts superstar Tony Jaa reunites with his Ong-Bak director to deliver 'bone-breaking thrills and amazing gravity-defying action' (Daily Star), performed without stunt doubles, wires, or CGI. Packed with incredible fight scenes, mesmerizing muay Thai moves, and a jaw-dropping final showdown that pits Jaa against 50 enemies. Review: By far the most mind-blowing martial arts film I've ever seen! - Put simply: AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! The action and stunt choreography will have your head spinning, so much that you may forget to notice the top-notch soundtrack and gorgeous cinematography, and the fact that all of the cast members deliver strong performances (a rarity in action films). The Protector is not only a riveting action film, it is also beautiful, with spirituality, humanity and respect for nature at its core. Even those who are not fans of action movies will be amazed at what they're seeing (no wires, no CGI, just pure human talent), and action fans will get such a charge that they may need to be put outside for a few hours afterward. THE DVD EXTRAS ARE PLENTIFUL AND THEY ARE TOP-NOTCH!!! Don't miss them. This is like no martial arts movie you've ever seen. Tony Jaa and Prachya Pinkaew have done the world a favor by bringing the unique, spectacular (and, as often noted, brutal) Mui Thai kickboxing style to the screen. It's not enough to say that the bar has been raised. It's been kicked through the ceiling. If you are a fan of fighting movies, your absolutely cannot miss this one. Your jaw will drop, your eyes will pop out and you will howl with disbelief. Reviewers criticizing this movie for senseless violence need to go soak their heads and check what planet they're on. Of course it's violent!!! It's a marial arts film!!! Were you expecting Ralph Macchio? This is the real deal. I love Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, but I promise, you've never seen anything like this. Tony Jaa is the future of martial arts cinema. Review: very good clarity - good movie

Have you seen my elephants
I liked how it showed that in ancient times there were these warriors called the Protectors. That guarded the elephants that the king would sit upon during battle. In the movie Tony Jaa is one of these warriors in modern times. He does whatever it takes to protect his elephants from political corruption and greed. Using hardcore muy tai its action packed. I gave it 4 stars because it could've been a lil better.

NOT ONG-BAK, but similar....
First off, if you found this review helpful in your decision-making, please click on the helpful button so this review may help others in their decision-making process. As a BIG Tony Jaa fan, I loved this movie. Not as much as ONG-BAK, but good nonetheless. This 2-disc collectors edition features the U.S version and the original Thai version, which is a bonus. Running time is approx. 110 minutes. Basically the movie follows a guardian to the King of Thailands war elephants, named Kham (Tony Jaa) as he embarks on a quest to retrieve the elephants he was brought up to protect, which was stolen from the village by poachers. As he journeys, he comes across multiple different martial artists all bent on killing him. Hopefully, (no spoilers) everything works out ok. If you saw ONG-BAK, you should kinda know what to expect from this movie...FIGHTS!!! I dont want to spoil too much of the movie, so plainly speaking, if you are a "fight fan", this is one of those must-see movies!

The Dragon Unleashed
The Protector....or most accurately titled "Tom Yum Goong" is a display of the Dragon within Tony Jaa. This movie feels more like a "Bruce Lee" film although he had a "Jackie Chan" look-a-like appear in this movie for a few seconds as a tribute. His first film was about his culture's most revered statue "Ong-Bak". Now we are introduced to a more prominent character...the Elephant. Eventhough Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior featured some Elephants at the end this movie focused heavily on them. Again people complain about the storyline but for this film helped me to have a new appreciation of Elephants and their importance to life. Tony Jaa shows us that he is quite capable of taking things up another notch with is 2nd film effort. This is movie is more "brutal" than Ong-Bak was and presence yet another "Thai" style of fighting. I particularly liked how Tony brought in some other Professional Fighters to present more styles of fight including my one of my favorite..."Capoeria" featured by Lateef Crowder (Wonderful Job)! I won't tell too much on the fight scenes because you need to see them for yourself and marvel but I will say that Tony Jaa's climactic scene featuring him up against 50+ enemies was quite a sight to behold. It was innovative and ambitious and he pulled it off with style! If Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior made you a fan of Tony Jaa then this is continue to fuel that support of his work! Well done Tony aka Panom Yeerum!! Well done!!!

Tony Jaa Does More Than Protect!
This has to be one of the best martial arts movies ever! I was turned on to Tony Jaa when I saw the flick Ong Bak years ago. I loved his style of bone-breaking fighting (Muay Thai) and when The Protector came out, it really upped the ante. What I love most about The Protector is that there was action in pretty much every major scene in the movie-I mean, my man kicked major ass over his elephants and based on the culture of the people, I don't blame him. I actually like the second disc (uncut) more because the fight scene at the end was a bit longer and you just can't get enough of the sound of the bad guys arms breaking. This movie rocks, plain and simple!

Next to Ong Bak this is Jaa's best movie. The opening fight is poorly edited, if inventive, and reminds me of the disappointment of so many of his films. However things pick up massively from there on. The direction, stunts, fights and editing of the subsequent scenes are amazing. The staircase fight is a thing of beauty as is the water filled room scene. The finale is a chaotic and brutal scene of broken bones and triumphant glory. PS. Dont watch Protector 2.. its awful in all the ways Protector isn't.

One of the best fighting movies of all time with actors doing all their own stunts/no wires, ect. Tony Jaa proves himself to be extremely versatile in terms of martial art knowledge. Ong Bak, The Raid 2 and The protector stand among the best action movies of all time. This deluxe edition also features both the American and authentic thai verison. The thai version is uncut and features 20+ minutes of movie, thai instead of weird english dub, and the classic soundtrack that was meant for the movie. A++
