It requires an external power supply for older HDMI ports. It has a micro usb port for optional power supply. I did not need a power supply for my laptop. My laptop has a USB-C port that I use with an adapter cable to HDMI for the transmitter. My monitor has HDMI, and it is a tight fit but I was able to plug it into port #2. I added a small HMDI extension cable to the RX at the TV to help with the fit.A menu is displayed on the TV and you select the mode. Then you power up the TX and it automatically connects. There is no software to install and it works great!!!I did notice some heat at the transmitter on the cable at the connector. It ran a little warm but did not cause any issues. I replaced the cable and it eliminated the heat. I believe it pulls a half an amp, so quality cables are recommended. I did not have any heat issues on the actual device, and as mentioned it was the connector on my cable that was getting hot, and after replacing the cable the heat went away.

My old phone had a micro-usb port, the new one uses USB-C. Nobody sells the adapter that I need to use the usb-c to usb-c cable that came with the new phone. Fast shipping from Amazon and just the adapter I needed to move the data from one phone to the other made the situation a lot less stressful.

I had an occasion where my phone ran very low on battery power and I had forgotten my mophie brick.My cell takes Micro USB for charging, nobody where I was had the correct cable to charge my phone, they all had USB-c cables. So I purchased these adapters in case there is another (boneheaded) event on my partI also purchased a USB 3 to USB Cable to test this adapter and so my grand-kids would have a charging option when they visit.These adapters work as they should and fit snugly.

perfect attachment to charge my ps4 controllers now i can use a single usb type c cable for all my devices which is very handy for me considering my asus rog phone 3 came with a type c wall charger so couldn't use any of my old cables as they where all type A to type b micro,mini no issues charging my controllers or friends phones when they visit so perfect attachment if you have older devices

I mostly use this to charge a wireless headset that uses Micro USB, as most of my cables are USB C and it is more convenient to use an adaptor than buy extra cables for a single device. It charges decently fast compared to a standard micro USB cable.

I wanted to connect USB-C devices like a USB type C flash drive and a USB C DAC. It didn't work. It did allow me to connect a phone to a PC and to a charger, so it works. They should just be upfront about what it won't do.

The quality of the connector material is alright though the connector itself is a bit clumsy. For some reason, both of these take some time to detect the connected device on the mobile phone. Can't say what the reason is, bad internal connections may be?
